Where is music stored? ringtones? other docs?

Sunday 12th of June 2011 / androidforums.com
Where does Android expect a user to store their data?My SD card is a jumble of directories created by all the apps that have ever been in my phone. I have no idea what most of them are for. Why isn't there some kind of directory structure in use here?/AppData/UserData/SDCard/AppData/SDCard/AppData/MyBackupPro/SDCard/UserData/SDCard/UserData/AppStorage/SDCard/UserData/AppStorage/MyBackupPro/SDCard/UserData/Music/SDCard/UserData/Ringtones/SDCard/UserData/Downloads...etcI try to keep my personal stuff (music, wallpaper, photos) all under a "MyData" directoryon the SDCard, but then some apps can't find it - such as the album art downloader that I'm trying to run now.

Where should my Ringtones be stored?

Monday 25th of July 2011 / androidforums.com
OK, I am new to Android, but I have spent quite a bit of time searching and reading, and unfortunately found inconsistent answers and advice. Of course, each posting I read claimed they knew the ultimate correct answer. Where do I store my own ringtones for the best support and easiest usage?/sdcard/ringtones /sdcard/media/ringtones/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones/sdcard/music/ringtones And there seems to be some disagreement if the first letter of the directory name needs to be capitalized or not..../ringtones.../Ringtones Anyone have any advice?

Friday 06th of April 2012 / androidforums.com
Hi all, I am new here and wanted to add to this topic. I have just started copying music to my Android (HTC Inspire) and I am not sure I am doing it correctly. The files are on our computer in m4a file format. I just opened my Android on my PC as an external USB drive and created a folder on the root called Music and copied the music there. Do I have to create the folder under SDCARD? I don't see a folder call sdcard?! Can it go on the root? Also, how does Android organize bands albums, etc? Do I have to create the band and then the folder for each album? Not sure about the folder structure.

You can put your music anywhere on the card, as well as photos and videos. The music/gallery apps will automatically scan and find them. I personally just put them in a folder called Music.

Where in the world are downloaded ringtones?

Saturday 21st of August 2010 / forums.androidcentral.com
My brother in law just got his intercept. While there is a learning curve I have been using android but not a samsung flavor for quite a while. He wanted to download some ringtones from mymixer. Where in the world do these ringtones get stored? I looked to see if they were in a download folder on the sd card and no. I looked in the media/audio/ringtones folder on the phone and no. They do show up as phone ringtones and not sound eventhough they are mp3's. He downloaded one more than once and would like to delete the other copies but he can't find how to do that. Any ideas?

Why aren't my assigned ringtones working?

Thursday 06th of January 2011 / droidforums.net
I'm sure it has something to do with my memory card, but I don't know enough about the inner workings of my droid to figure this out on my own.I recently had my droid replaced because of water damage. All of my old ring tones are now on my new phone, everything was transferred successfully.I went and assigned all different songs for custom ring tones a few weeks ago when I got the replacement phone. I notice that all the old songs however, do not work when a call comes in who I assigned the song for. The default ring tone comes up instead. The new ones I have downloaded since I got the newer phone work fine, but the old ones in my android library do not.So I guess I am wondering is there a way to transfer my older ring tones elsewhere so that they will work? Or do I have to download them all again? I searched on my phone and can't even figure out where the ring tones are stored so that I can move them from either memory card to phone or phone to memory card.

Using ES File Explorer, and setting ringtones

Monday 05th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Some more questions from an Android newbie! As suggested, I downloaded ES File Explorer and used it to create sub-folders for ringtones and such.I then changed the ringtone for one contact and somehow it's now the default ringtone (don't want it to be). So I went to Settings, My Device, Sound and Ringtones. Instead of seeing a list of ringtones, the phone now lists a bunch of folders under: /storage/emulated/0. Here are my questions:1. Where are the ringtones stored?2. How can I toggle/switch back to the original view (original ringtone list)?3. When I changed the ringtone for one contact, I did it by editing that contact's settings. Any idea what I did wrong that changed the default ringtone? Thanks in advance for your help again! - - - Updated - - - Forgot to mention this is on a Samsung Galaxy S4. (still learning the ropes!)

Where are ringtones and notification sounds stored?

Wednesday 11th of September 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Where are these files stored on the internal phone storage? I'm not talking about the SD card. I discovered the source of a problem wherein my phone would seemingly randomly change my notifications. I found out it happened every time I plugged the phone into my computer via a USB cable. What happens is that the ringtones and notifications for email, SMS, and any other app that stores these files on the SD card cannot find them once the phone is plugged into a computer via USB if the phone is set to allow direct access via the computer. Since the phone cannot find the associated ringtone or notification sound, it just randomly assigns another and does not switch it back once the phone is unplugged. I'm hoping to find the location of the internal storage where the stock ring tones and notification sounds are kept so that I can put my custom ring tones and notifications there. The stock notifications are never disturbed. This way, my custom settings won't be either. The only other solution is to never plug my phone into the computer again. Really, this is a bit of stupidity on Android's
