The Ultimate Guide to All Things Droid X and Root

Friday 15th of July 2011 / androidspin.com
Not being a Verizon customer, nor owning a DROID X, I find it a little difficult to understand what you guys have to go through to root your phones. So many steps and so many files, it’s madness really. Which is why I personally would never switch carriers or ever buy a Motorola device. What I can understand though is how hard it is to search the web and find the perfect tutorial that breaks things down in English (meaning, not overly techie) and offers a step-by-step guide for your device. That’s where Sysadmin-x from RootzWiki comes in. Rather then say “do this, then do that and you are done”, he offers a complete guide to all things DROID X. He covers such topics as -The Benefits of rootingSDK:Droid X Driversz4root and ROOTINGTHEMES AND HOW TO USE:SBF: What is it, and what does it do?!?Plus many more topics that as a DROID X owner and user should know and understand. One of his statements under “the benfits of rooting” will give you an idea of how well written his guide is. Rooting: Just because you have a rooted phone, does not explicitly ope

.Note: this step is not necessary for Mac or Linux users since adb and fastboot seem to connect right out of the box for those platforms.Unfortunately, Microsoft Windows uses need to install special USB drivers in order to establish USB connectivity with the adb and fastboot utilities. There are several options for doing so and I'll list them in the order in which I've heard folks indicate their success:1. PDAnet drivers32-bit Windows 7/Vista/XP 64-bit Windows 7/VistaIf prompted, specify "Samsung" as your device manufacturer; you can also un-install PdaNet itself afterwards, but leave the USB drivers intalled.2. ADB/FB Driver Naked Samsung Driver 1.7 [ADB/FB Driver] Naked Samsung Driver 1.7 - xda-developersThis driver worked very well for me on my Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) system. Here are some detailed notes that I took when I installed this driver on my system (click the "Show" button below to expand the details):
