What does 'background data' actually mean?

Sunday 08th of November 2009 / androidforums.com
Hi thereAs everyone knows, turning 'background data' off saves a huge amount of power. My question is though, what does background data actually mean? I know market 'requires' it, and Qik seems to break if it's turned off. However, I have an app called SMSBackup which uploads your texts to Gmail as you send/receive them. It seems to work even though background data is switched off. How is this? Could someone tweak/re-write the market to not use background data?Thanksch424

What does "Safe Mode" mean?

Sunday 24th of March 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I opened my S3 this morning and there is a Safe Mode note in lower left hand corner. Also, my 16GB micro SD card dropped off the world yesterday. Any connection? I've re-booted several times this morning, but the Safe Mode note is still there. There is no reference in my Que Book on the S3.
