iPhone 4 Embarrasses Android, Wins Best Mobile Device At MWC

Thursday 17th of February 2011 / phandroid.com
The Wall Street Journal called Android, “the star of the show,” claiming it powered, “every significant device launched at the Mobile World Congress.” This is true. Android was here, Android was there, Android was everywhere – anything worth talking about at MWC 2011 was Android-based.Then the iPhone 4 won “Best Mobile Device” at an event they didn’t even attend where the only things important were Android-based. It clearly shows the judges aren’t biased, only offering awards to exhibitors, but it’s a pretty embarrassing situation in my opinion. HTC won Best Device Manufacturer and surely a slew of handsets on site could have taken home the gold for best overall device, but Apple got the award instead. To be honest, if the judges really did feel the iPhone 4 was the Best Mobile Device, Apple should have one best manufacturer too. In an Android-dominated landscape they still manage to win Best Mobile Device despite a healthy portfolio of Android smartphones appearing? The iPhone 4 is better than the Atrix, Bionic, Thunderbolt,

The Android Market may not have as many apps as the iPhone App Store yet, but there are still more than enough to be overwhelmed, and it continues to grow at a breakneck pace. To help you sort through them all, here is my latest list of the 20 most useful Android apps (this is an update of my 2010 Android list). I’ve also recently updated my list of the most useful iPhone apps and you’ll notice several of the same apps on both lists. Remember that I primarily had business professionals in mind when making this list and also keep in mind that this is a snapshot in time. The Android platform is developing so quickly that I guarantee my home screen will look different a month from now. Still, here’s my list of tried-and-true Android apps that I can highly recommend. 1. Google Voice Google Voice is a service that is so useful I consider it one

Matias Duarte on Android’s UI: It’s Only About 33% Of Where I Want It To Be

Wednesday 19th of September 2012 / phandroid.com
Google’s Matias Duarte is more than just a snappy dresser, he’s also Google’s Senior Director of Android User Experience. Today, the man responsible for taking Android’s design out of the stone-age and into the brave new world of Holo UI, was congratulated on the official Android Google+ page after being recognized as one of Fast Company’s “50 Designers Shaping the Future.”While most Google+ users were quick to send Matias their praise and congratulatory messages for all his hard work (pre-ICS, Android wasn’t exactly known for its beauty), the thread quickly became overrun by users who jumped on the opportunity to point out Android’s current design flaws. It’s true. Android isn’t totally “there” yet — anyone who spends a lot of time in OS can tell you that. This general feeling was also echoed by Matias who responded to design criticisms saying:It’s true, we still have a lot of work to do. Personally I feel like I’ve gotten only about a third of the way to where I want to be with regards

Virgin Mobile Prefers Stock Android on All of Their Phones, We Wish Other Carriers Would Take Note – Droid Life

Friday 10th of June 2011 / droid-life.com
I know this has nothing to do with Verizon, but we just wanted to point out how awesome it is as we head into the weekend.  Remember yesterday’s post that we got all excited over which had to do with the Motorola Triumph as a surprisingly stock Android device headed to Virgin Mobile?  Apparently stock/vanilla Android is the standard on Virgin for a number of reasons:  consistency, freedom to customize and a love for the true Android experience. In an email to our friends at PCMag (whom we’re still trying to forgive for this piece), Virgin had this to say:“Virgin Mobile USA aims to make available devices that allow the end user to have the freedom to customize the device to their liking. We like to take a consistent approach with our Android portfolio and so we prefer to have the true Android experience loaded on all our Android phones,” a Virgin spokesperson said. They might be a small carrier when compared to Verizon, Sprint and AT&T, but man do I wish their CEO would sit down and have a conversation with some of those other big mobile leaders after hear

The Beta Version of Capacitive Screen Apad Android Tablet - Page 3

Monday 29th of November 2010 / androidtablets.net
Nowsupplier: I am about to order TWO of these tablets from you: ereader books android tablet 2.2 RK2818 8" touch screen wireless wifi. My questions are these: 1) Does this run true android 2.2 froyo and if so does it run true flash 10.1? I am getting these for my 10 year old daughters who play many flash based games (like Webkinz). I would be sorely dissapointed if these units did not run true android 2.2 or full 10.1 flash 2) Is this able to access the Market, and if so, through what application? 3) Are games like Angry Birds able to be installed and played on this tablet? 4) What is the approximate shipping time to Western United states (Montana)? I obviously am buying these as a christmas gift for my girls. If you could please answer these questions I would appreciate it. I will wait for your answers before placing my order.
