Samsung Galaxy-branded smartphones leaked

Monday 20th of August 2012 / androidguys.com
Several mid-range, Galaxy-branded Samsung phones haveĀ arisen today, and it looks like Sammy is shooting for multiple carriers at once here. Granted, each device is a little different from the next. Four carriers are rumored to be getting some decent devices in the coming months, and while we have a few details, not much is known about some of them.First up is the Galaxy Discover, allegedly slated for a launch on TracFone. It’s rocking ICS, a fair amount of internal storage, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, and a MicroSD card slot that offers up to 32GB of additional, external storage. Sadly, that’s all the rumored information on TracFone’s very first Android device. We’re hoping it’ll have at least a dual-core processor, but only time will tell!Moving along, we have two devices for Verizon: the Galaxy Stellar and Stratosphere 2. We’ve actually heard a fair bit about the Stellar, which first leaked as the “Jasper,” and got its new name just days later. Earlier reports showed the Stellar packing a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, but the lates

Switching from Virgin Mobile to Ting

Sunday 11th of August 2013 / androidforums.com
I do hiking and camping in areas that don't have Sprint network. I found out about Ting a while ago and decided to try it out. With Ting, I get Verizon voice roaming, which does cover the areas I hike and camp in.I don't get data roaming, but at least I can use the phone for calling and texting. My wife wanted to jump on the Android bandwagon from her Tracfone, so we are using a shared Ting plan, starting today. We ordered a couple refurbished, cheap phones from Ting, to try out their service. If we like it, we might eventually get better phones. If we don't like it, we go back to Virgin.Btw, the phone I got from Ting is a feature phone, a military spec Kyocera DuraTX, I figured that's what I rather have out hiking, than an expensive but vulnerable smartphone.I will keep my HTC EVO 4 V as a "pad", at home and elsewhere where there is wifi. Too bad I can't bring my EVO to Ting. Our kids use texting and internet a lot, so they are better off staying with Virgin.I will update here later on after using the Ting service for a while, with pros and cons. One mistake I did was when my

ZTE Valet - Android Phones - Android Forum - A Community For Android Users and Enthusiasts

/ androidforum.com
Hi,Since I'm new to Androids or any kind of smart phone, I'm not sure whether my questions are 1) specific to the ZTE Valet TracFone and 2) stupid. But I'm a big believer in asking stupid questions, so here goes:1. Any idea how to get my Google calendar to load? Should I buy the Google Calendar App on Play Store?2. I'm confused about when my phone is using data and when it isn't. For example, if I open my Google Calendar (once I figure out how to do that), it must use data to open the calendar. Does it, like, use data once to open the calendar, once again to synch it, once again to view an appointment, once again tocreate a new appointment?3. This is specific to the phone, but it doesn't seem to have a Prepaid menu, so I can't check my minutes and data usage without going to the Tracfone website and asking Tracfone to tell me what my usage is. I want to get an idea for how much data I use doing this or that on the phone.Okay, Those are my questions - thanks for any input!

Tracfone Android Phones

Saturday 23rd of November 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Tracfone the pay-as-you-go cell phone company now gives us pay-as-you-go Android phones with it's introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Centura and the ZTE Valet a few months ago. You can check YouTube for a comparison of the pros and cons of these two phones. I am pleased with my purchase of the ZTE Valet which runs Android 4.1.1. The Samsung Galaxy Centura runs Android 4.0. I am wondering whether Tracfone will be putting out system updates for these phones. My guess is that these phones won't be updated at all. As I look through the forums here, it seems that system updates come from the cell phone carriers like Sprint, Verizon, etc. If Tracfone followed suit, it probably wouldn't have lead off with the Valet running Android Jellybean while the Galaxy Centura runs only Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Does anyone have any ideas or information? Sent from my Nexus 7 using AC Forums mobile app

Samsung Galaxy Express with Tracfone

Monday 09th of December 2013 / androidforums.com
I have just bought an unlocked galaxy express and was hoping to use it via Tracfone, using there PAYG datacards and transferring my existing number. I cannot get a clear answer from Tracfone, one operator tells me its ok, he'll send a sim and he can transfer the number across, the next guy tells me probably not, he would have to look at the serial number of the phone and thinks I would have to go on NET10.The data cards from tracfone state 'android powered' phones only, hence I assumed it wold be ok (as I was first told before buying the phone)he phone doesn't arrive until next week, anyone out there have the real answer?Al

Pay As You Go Recommendation

Saturday 28th of December 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hello, This is a phone recommendation request. I am currently a TracFone customer and rarely purchase minutes (every several months or yearly). I would like to upgrade to an Android phone with GPS. I was looking over the ZTE Valet. It has the latest version of Android of any of their phones (4.1). Can anyone recommend a 'purchase minutes' style of phone from any carrier (ZIP 53545) with Android? I am not interested in monthly payments. The assistance is appreciated. Thank you, Ryan

ZTE Valet short battery life due to wifi?

Saturday 08th of February 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
We have 2 new Tracfone ZTE Valets. Android 4.1.1 Mine gets 3 days of idle battery life while my wife's gets less than one day.Charge both, unplug and leave overnight. Mine has 96% charge in morning, hers 65%. The battery section shows Phone Idle and Cell Standby using about 33% battery each on hers. On her phone the WIFI is listed as using about 33% as well, while mine is 5-6%. For some reason "The Weather Channel" on mine is listed as using about 50% battery, but charge lasts days while idle. (I assume the % means it's share of the power being used, not battery capacity) The Tracfone "My Service" app/widget on hers was stuck 'pending reply' and using relatively large amount of data (17meg) while mine used perhaps a few k data. I assume it was repeatedly calling home. Uninstall/re-install and now it gets answer, uses little data (I include this just for recent related history) Both phones are set to "Keep wifi on while asleep NEVER". From reading this should increase data usage on cell and perhaps even increase battery drain - but it doesn't drain my pho
