Android 101: How to Use Any Audio File as a Notification Sound [Video]

Monday 01st of November 2010 / phandroid.com
Every day, hundreds of thousands of new Android users get their phones, and out of that hefty chunk, we’re sure there are more than a few of you who would like to learn how to use your phones to their fullest potential. Introduce Android 101, a series of guides, tutorials, and how-tos where we attempt to answer those burning questions whenever you first take your phone out of its packaging. We were asked how one could use a song as a notification sound for incoming SMS messages – a sensible want and need. There are a few different ways that you can make this happen – some easier than others – but the easiest way is to use the Android market to your advantage. Just like you would expect from any app store, it’s there to add new functionality to your phone without you having to worry about complications. For today’s session, I use an app called Ringdroid to edit any audio file on my phone for use as a ringtone, a notification sound, or an alarm sound. I then show how you can change the settings in your SMS app (AOSP version) to use your new file as the

Facebook pop notification sound GONE!!

Friday 07th of May 2010 / forums.androidcentral.com
I've had my Incredible since last Saturday and I've grown to LOVE the Facebook pop notification sound. I hooked the incredible up to my laptop today to load some music on it and deleted the stock music from the phone. ...for some reason, the Facebook pop notification sound that would show under notification sounds in the settings menu is GONE!! I'm not too sure I can live without it. Any ideas as to how to get it back or where I can download it from?! P.S. I tried redownloading the Facebook for Android app out of the Marketplace and nothing. Still not there.

App Installation Notification Sound

Sunday 10th of April 2011 / androidforums.com
I have a MyTouch 4G, and I was noticing that certain applications give me a notification sound when they are successfully installed from the Market, while others do not. Why is this? It seems logical that all of the apps should either make the noise or not... An example of this is the IMDB app. After it has downloaded and installed, my phone makes a noise to let me know that it is installed. However, the Office Depot app, for instance, installs without making any sound. This just seems odd to me, and I have not found any settings menu where you configure the installation notification sounds for the Market... Can anyone else try installing those and seeing if they get the same results? Perhaps someone has the answer... Maybe it is something written into the app that some developers use and others do not? Thanks in advance for all the help!

How do I turn off notification sound?

Monday 23rd of January 2012 / androidforums.com
I cannot figure out how to turn off the email notification sound without turning of the phone ringer. I am using K-9 email. The only thing I can find in the settings is to turn off all notification during "quiet time", which also includes the visual notifications. And if I go to Notifications in sound settings, I can only choose between the default sounds and the Zedge sounds that I have loaded. I don't see any option to choose no sound. I don't want to hear "Droid!" every few minutes.

Anyway to change SD insert notification sound without root?

Monday 26th of July 2010 / androidforums.com
Since the system can't access the SD card when it's mounting, I guess there's no way without root to add a custom sound to the system files?

Tasker Notification Sound without actual Notification?

Thursday 08th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I want to set up a tasker profile that makes a sound every time I turn off the screen. Notify Sound and Notify Vibrate work, but they display messages in the notification panel. Instead of Notify Vibrate, I just used Vibrate which worked perfectly. But I can't find the same option for just a sound. Is there anywhere I'm not looking where I can just hear a sound without having a notification?

Can I get Facebook icon badge notifications without an actual notification?

Sunday 20th of October 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I'm a longtime iPhone user (since 3G) who just switched to Android and the Galaxy Note 3 this week. There are several things I miss about iOS, and one of them is badge notifications without the need for a 3rd party app. Ideally, when I'm due a notification from Facebook, I want only a badge notification on the app's icon, like you do in iOS, and I'm getting that with "Missed it!" installed. However, I don't want an actual notification (via audible tone and indicator) in the notification bar. Is it possible to disable notifications via the notification bar, but still have it display a badge notification on the icon? Thanks in advance.
