What an app permission can really do on your phone.

Tuesday 23rd of April 2013 / droidforums.net
I'm just curious with these apps asking to have to the ability to access our personal info. Can they really go through our files on our phone? I notice that with every update they want to add new permissions. How safe is the information stored on our phone?

Full Internet Access App Permission

Tuesday 21st of February 2012 / androidforums.com
Hi all My apologies for this thread also being in the Android Lounge as well. I have a couple of questions and thought this might be the right place to come for some help.I paid for and downloaded and installed a app from Android Market which is used to check what permissions each app has that is installed on my Android device it is called Doctor Permission. The app has just one permission it's self being the following- --------------------------------------------------------------------------NETWORK COMMUNICATIONFULL INTERNET ACCESSAllows an application to create network sockets.--------------------------------------------------------------------------Could a app with just this one permission like Full Internet Access cause any real harm to my device ?Or does it require other permissions like read contact info or system logs etc to possibly become a problem app.? Could it require the internet connection because of license checking.? Cheers

Strange app permission/behavior

Tuesday 03rd of August 2010 / droidforums.net
Newest update to Ring Guard requested access to camera!? And now you can hear the camera clicking when you make volume changes! Is this thing taking pictures!? And sending them somewhere!? The app is supposed to simply prevent unintended ring volume changes from bumping the volume rocker. No apparent need for camera function. Anyone know what's up with this?

App Permission Explanations??

Sunday 03rd of October 2010 / droidforums.net
I was wondering if anyone knew a good site to look at for a very detailed look at what all the permissions asked for really mean when you install a new app? I can easily see what is written under the permissions and I generally understand what it is saying, but I'd much rather have a detailed description of each possible one and show it in context. I won't give an example because I don't just want that one example answered. Lots of applications ask for (yes example i know), "Full Internet Access", but i'm not asking what a specific one does I'm asking in context why would an app need it. I know this sounds confusing, but if your not reading this and your immediate response is just not to be snarky and answer like a wise@ss right away then you get the legitimacy of my question. So if anyone knows a program or a webpage that has a full detailed description of what permissions do in relation to an app, I'd very much appreciate it. I know different apps need different permissions but I'm looking for a broad overview explanation. Thanks!

Friday 17th of August 2012 / androidforums.com
Android newbie here. When I tried to install my first (FREE) APP, MR. NUMBER on my Sony XPERIA Ray, it asked (DEMANDED) permissions to go virtually anywhere and do ANYTHING in my phone... Are all APPS like that ???..I'm certainly not going to give it a blanket OK to mess with everything in my phone.

Strange app install issue

Tuesday 19th of April 2011 / droidforums.net
I'm having a strange issue with a few apps. It started while I had my droid X and now I am having the same issue on the Thundebolt. There are a few apps that wont update or install unless I unmount my sdcard or have the sdcard mounted to a pc so it is unaccessable to the system. So far these are the ones:-all three angry birds, seasons, rio, -Runik-pewpew-theres been otheres but I can't remember them off hand. I am rooted and was on both phones. I had the X since launch and didn't have any problems with updates until about a month before I got the thunderbolt (also at launch). I thought it might be the format of the sdcard but on the X it worked fine until like I say a month before I got the thunderbolt. The thunderbolt came with a 32gb card and I'm having the same issue. It's also with the Amazon Market also. Same apps wont install. The workaround I found with the amazon market was: I located a file on the sdcard by using root explorer that the amazon market is using like a cache (I can't remember right off hand where it is). The amazon market downloads the apk files there then inst

App permission 'Find accounts on the device'

Saturday 05th of October 2013 / droidforums.net
Does this permission allow an app to find every account on your phone, or, is it because you're going to give them an email address in order to set up an account? Thank you!Sent from my Note 2 using SwiftKey

Kit Kat 4.4 has removed app permission controls?

Wednesday 06th of November 2013 / androidforums.com
One of the best features of Android 4.3 was the introduction of App Ops. Which allowed you to control the individual permissions of an app. You had to use third-party apps to do this. But it gave me peace of mind to know I could turn off some aspects of the permissions an app was asking for.Just heard that 4.4 has dropped this. Can anyone verify or disprove this?

Strange app i want to remove....

Sunday 05th of January 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
There is an app on my phone I can't figure out how to remove. I think it might actually be spyware. Basically there is a arrow always(pointing down left) on my screen even when playing a game. When you click on it...it open up square icons of facebook twitter a search engine that takes you to search.mobilda.com, a plus sign,.....also one block is basically an ad. I guess last resort would be to reset my phone. I rather not delete my text(but not really a big deal) and photos(most photos are on my memory card so I assume that might not be a problem....Can anyone help?
