Slow data speeds on Straight talk

Tuesday 24th of July 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
I seem to be getting slow data speeds on my unlocked nexus through straight talk. I ordered the nexus through the play store and the unlocked sim from straight talk which is an AT&T sim. My friend sitting next to me with a gs2 can pull about 3-5 mbps down and about 1.5mbps up. My speed test show I only get 500kbps down and about 800kpbs up Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Android Central Forums

Straight Talk-Why no Speed Test

Thursday 07th of June 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
I recently bought a Note to try out ST. It's been great so far. What I'd like to know is why the Speed Test app works sometimes for mobile data and sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to do some tests before deciding if I want to stick with Sprint or completely swap to ST. It always works on wifi. FYI, when it has worked I've had dl speeds over 5mbps compared to the 100kbps I get with Sprint. Anyone know why it doesn't always work? Sent from my GT-N7000 using Android Central Forums

Straight Talk speed test

Friday 04th of January 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I just activated my Straight Talk service yesterday on my Note 2. One of the first things I wanted to do was a speed test. I'm using the Speed Test app off Google play. It will ping the server and test uploading fine, however when downloading it just suits there for a few seconds and then the graph depicts a plateau. The result is always 8kbps. Does anyone know why this happens? The data works fine for all other apps (seemingly). I was interested to find out the difference in my local areas between Verizon LTE and HSPA+. Carrier Switch and Device Selection

Thursday 22nd of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Okay my favorite android enthusiasts, I need your opinions.... I am looking to switch from big red (Verizon) to T-Mobile. Why? Cost and I want to switch to GSM technology because CDMA does not work in the building where I work but GSM has perfect signal. I have been using straight talk to test signal strength everywhere I go for about 20 days now and I have only found some areas where it is lacking. Now... For my questions.... 1) I will obviously need to buy a new phone to support GSM. However, I cannot decide between the following devices: Nexus 4, Galaxy S4 Non-Google Play, HTC One (Non-Google Play). What do you guys and gals think? (I do like to hack my devices so CyanogenMod support is a must) (Why Non-Google Play? Because I like to test out the stock software too but have the option to unlock the bootloader and go CyanogenMod) 1.1) If you say HTC One, Which model is the T-Mobile? I see the names HTC One X, HTC One S, etc. However, the T-Mobile site does not specify. 2) How does T-mobile compete in speeds and coverage? I love my Verizon coverage and speed but I could save 100 dol

Loss of data with slimport attached

Saturday 12th of October 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I bought a slimport adapter from kanex and when I attach the phone to my TV the data slows to a crawl. A speed test with the phone by the TV results in 7 down and 2 up. When I attach the slimport it slows down to 0.02 down and 0.01 up. I am using straight talk on a completely stock nexus 4. Has anyone else experienced the same thing and have you tried anything to fix it? Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Public service announcement - Speedtest uses your data

Wednesday 06th of November 2013 / androidforums.com
I know this is probably obvious to a lot of people, but I thought I'd make a post to point it out as a warning. I just left Verizon and had an unlimited plan so I never paid much attention to what was using my data or how much I used. I've activated my N5 on Straight Talk and wanted to test out the AT&T LTE speeds and ran three speed tests on my phone on Monday afternoon. Got about 16.7 to 17.7 mbps down and 6.3 to 6.8 mbps up. Sweet. One test was on HSPA and was slower.I happened to check my data usage this morning and have used 198mb of data in the two days since I got the phone. 150mb of that data was used by the Speedtest app.Since many folks might be coming from an N4 and are getting LTE for the first time and are likely anxious to see how fast it is, keep in mind you're using data running those tests! The last thing you want to do is get 1) throttled for going over, or 2) charged extra for going over, depending on how your plan works.Have fun,Gary

Straight Talk AT&T LTE service, incredibly slow, experiencing same thing??

Friday 29th of November 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Am using straight talk on AT&T with a nexus 5, at first the speed was awesome, but lately, it's been incredibly slow, I mean like less than 1mb download speed slow. This is happening all over NYC, is anyone else having same issue? I have ran speed test with friends devices with AT&T and they get well over 20mb download speed so it would seem particular to nexus 5 and AT&T. Posted via Android Central App

Why are these speeds so slow?

Sunday 29th of December 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hi, I have a new Moto X GSM Developer Edition and, just recently, ported my number over from Page Plus to the AT&T network on Straight Talk. I very carefully set the APN settings to that seen online on also on Straight Talks website. Phone calls and text messages appear to be working fine but we are having what I consider to be serious data deficiencies. We've had regular situations where Google Maps will not work due to a network error and extremely slow page loads in the browser. I downloaded the mobile version Speedtest app and got the listed speeds over the last two days. Note that there are WiFi tests mixed in the data. This is when I was connecting the phone to my FIOS router with a strong wifi signal to see how that compared to the 4G data speeds. The final two readings were the speed test results from connecting my laptop to the same router to see how my laptop wifi speeds compared to my phone wifi. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be happening? Is the phone defective? The non-wifi tests were done with between 2 and 4 bars of 4G or 4GLTE indicated data. The

Straight Talk Nexus 5 - $45/mo. BYOP AMAZING (15 he Verizon customer)

Wednesday 08th of January 2014 / androidforums.com
Like the title says have been with Verizon on same # for 15 years... Dying for the nexus 5 and not waiting around for Verizon and Google to stop acting like immature babies so I decided to get the nexus 5 and test it out a month before jumping ship from 15 years loyal Verizon customer. Why not only $45 to test it anyway unlimited everything until 2.5gb data.ST gave me a new number since I didn't want to deactivate my Verizon line without testing it out. Its been nearly a month now and am floored with ST's coverage. Don't get me wrong their customer service are a bunch of morons and don't compare to Verizon's but there actual speed of their LTE network... Wow. Was very hesitant to leave Verizon although they can be aholes I've been with them so long its not an easy choice. What I love:-network coverage-network speed (see images) speed test 10mb downloads on ST vs Verizon LTE pulling 3mb-monthly cost --- Verizon $100/mo 2 year contract compared to ST $45/mo... Why didn't I switch earlier?!?-any phone I want I can activate on ST compared to Verizons power tripWhat I don't like:-customer

Network speed is averaging .04 mbps

Sunday 13th of April 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I've rooted, and tried many roms with my nexus 4 and I know i've done something to cause the network speed to be averaging about .04 mbps. I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to fix it by doing a couple things and can't find the answer anywhere. I'm using Straight Talk Tmobile in SLC, UT. I use to get 8 mbps easy. This is what i've done to try and fix it: Verified APN settings are correctHave flashed different radios Used the Nexus root toolkit to unroot, and return to stock I did the whole #*#*4636*#*# and clicked on "run ping test" and it says: Ping IpAddr: Fail: IP addr not reachable Any advice on what to do?
