How can I update the default stock browser (com.android.browser)?

Saturday 02nd of March 2013 / android.stackexchange.com
I have version 2.3.3 of the stock android browser on my phone. I know there are newer versions out that support features that I want which are not available in 2.3.3. However, I do not see any upgrades available, and in fact the stock browser does not even show up in the Google Play store.I figure I probably need to manually install from somewhere, but where do I find the necessary files and how do I perform the upgrade? Note: I am not interested in upgrading to a newer version of Android.

Where do saved pages go in stock browser?

Wednesday 16th of January 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Just a quick question. I normally use Chrome as my browser bit I noticed the "save for offline reading" feature in the stock browser. I go in and out of service range alot so this would be a cool feature of I could figure out where they go once I save them.. I tried looking in the file manager and other places to no avail. Where the heck do they get saved? I'm sure it's just something simple i've missed, but if someone could help me I'd appreciate it.

Thunderbolt, Stock Browser - HTTP always in front??

Thursday 14th of April 2011 / forums.androidcentral.com
So, I've got my TB and have installed an earlier version of Swype (Evo). I love that swype works great, except for the auto space with the stock SMS (Handcent FTW). I've tried Dolphin Mini/HD, FF and Miren. I gotta say that I'm loving Miren, but because Swype auto space doesn't work at all, I'm back to the stock browser. One of the things I love is being able to just type in search words in the browser bar, but I have having to erase the "http://www." everytime in the stock browser. For example, if I want to search for "amsterdam", I go to the top, touch the browser bar, and see that everything is highlighted...EXCEPT for the "http://www." So I need to manually delete/clear out the "http://www.", then go back and swype "amsterdam" to search from the bar. Is there anyway to have the stock browser take out the "http://www." on the Thunderbolt as a default? p.s. does Miren support swype auto space...if so, how?

what's been up lately with the stock browser on 4.1.2 aosp roms?

Saturday 01st of December 2012 / droidforums.net
Hey guys, I've searched around the internet but haven't found anything. My stock aosp browser has been bugging out lately. What happens is if i load a heavy page (droid-life does this all the time) the loading goes up most of the way, pauses for a second, and i get booted off fhe browser. It just closes out to my home screen. Then if i open the browser again, its either the page i was just at, which will be fully loaded, or it starts over on google, which then proceeds to refresh over and over again on its own. Odd, it has never done this before. I tried different kernels, roms, factory resets, i wiped everything each time. And it still keeps doing this. I dont get it. It even happens on my friends epic 4g touch, so i dont think its just my device. I've been resorting to using chrome for now, which is somewhat wonky. I would love to remedy this issue. Can anyone help, and importanly, has this been going on with anyone else? Background: i have a rooted, unlocked d2vzw, running paranoid android (latest) and leankernel 1.10 experimental. Cpu is stock, gpu is oc'd.Thanks in advance!Edit:

Stock browser randomly closes

Saturday 15th of September 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
This started yesterday. The stock browser randomly closes while I'm reading through a webpage. It seems to happen mostly when I'm scrolling down or up a page. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I run stock os with the most recent update. Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Android Central Forums

PLEASE HELP - Stock browser talking out loud

Monday 09th of December 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I need help figuring out how to stop the stock browser from talking out loud on my Note 3 device. The talk back only happens when using the stock browser. No other apps or my Chrome browser does this. The easy fix is to simply not use the stock browser but it's driving me crazy not knowing how to fix this. Thanks.
