Android Quick App: Robo Defense

Monday 20th of June 2011 / androidcentral.com
Robo Defense is one of those staples of the Android Market. It's been around since very early on in Android's life, and has been consistently updated to keep the game up-to-date graphically and in gameplay.Robo Defense is a tower defense game where you're repelling hordes of robots. Defending against robots, ergo, Robo Defense ... everyone clear? The gameplay is straightforward. You start off on an empty canvas with one hole on one side, another hole on the other, and you need to strategically set up your towers to stop the baddies as they march through. Different levels are set up differently, but Level 0 is a no-frills, easy-to-grasp starter level. You have a pretty wide range of towers to choose from. Your main three that you'll be picking from are the regular gun tower, missile tower, and slow tower. Over time, as the enemies get stronger and you accumulate more money, you can upgrade your towers. For example, the missile tower can be upgraded to anti-air missiles, a mortar tower, or a medium strength missile tower. Even subclasses of tower you choose, like mortars, have an upgrad

Robo Defense gets another update, continues to be awesome

Wednesday 14th of September 2011 / androidcentral.com
Pardon a little gushing folks, but as any long-time Android users know, Robo Defense is one of the real OG games for Android. And the folks at Lupis Labs haven't forgotten it, as it just got another great update with a new level, a new tower, and new achievements. There might be newer games on the Market that take advantage of things like Tegra instructions, or need a dual-core powerhouse to run well, but I wanted to take a second and remind everyone about an old favorite.Robo Defense runs on any device with Donut or higher, and if you have bought the game you'll have an update waiting for ya in the Android Market. If you haven't tried it, the link to the free trial is after the break -- check it out and remember how we used to game on our phones. You'll probably still enjoy the hell out of it.Revisit and discuss some strategy in the forums!

App Review: Robo Defense

Thursday 22nd of October 2009 / androidguys.com
Whether its while you’re in line at the store, or sitting waiting for class to start, I am sure that many of you have your own go to game for wasting a few minutes of time here and there. Robo Defense by Lupis Labs is the one I’ve been playing with for a few weeks now on my MyTouch.Upon first glance, Robo Defense is a simple tower defense game. The goal is to build turrets to massacre all of the little guys trying to get into your base before they can do so. For each one you kill, you are paid a certain amount of money with which you buy more turrets to kill more guys. The game is very simple to pick up and start playing, but it has, through the use of power ups and achievements you can unlock, a level of complexity that can keep you playing for weeks or longer without running out of things to do.The game comes in both free and paid versions. The free one limits your upgrades and leaves you with only one map and 10 difficulties. The paid version costs only $2.99 and adds a few more static levels and some very interesting VR levels that are generated from a “Map Code

Robo Defense HD Breathes New Life Into an Aging Classic

Wednesday 09th of February 2011 / phandroid.com
Robo Defense is one of the oldest games on the Android market, and yet, it remains one of the best. Since the G1 launched, it has been a mainstay on many Android users’ phones, and even with the crowded competition other developers have brought in the form of tower defense games, Robo Defense has remained a true competitor. That experience is about to get even better as the developer wants to inject new life into the game – they’re introducing an HD version. For now, you can only check out a limited beta that affords the player one map and 11 difficulties. When we’d be able to see this game hasn’t been mentioned, and no word was given on whether or not existing paying customers would be able to get the upgrade for free. Download it in the Android market now. [via Droid Gamers]

Robo Defense: Stays fresh, fun, and worth your money/time

Tuesday 08th of June 2010 / androidforums.com
Summary:To those new to the tower defense genre, tower defense games typically involve waves of different types of enemies that enter from one side of the screen and exit out the other. Your job is to build "towers" (which may not be "towers" in the literal sense in some games but can be treated the same as a unmovable object) which damage or deliver some sort of status effect (such as slowing enemies down) as so they are destroyed before they can reach the other side. Different towers are more suited to taking down certain types of enemies than others and so it is ultimately up to you to decide the best strategy needed. Robo Defense is a typical tower defense game that features several different tilesets and many distinct upgradable tower types. The action is set on a 2D map of which you have an overhead view of the battlefield. The graphics are surprisingly good and all the towers have very different design/color schemes that allow you to quickly distinguish one type of tower from another on quick glance, avoiding a problem many tower defense games suffer from.

Robo Defense: Pretty much worth it

Monday 07th of June 2010 / androidforums.com
So, nobody likes paid apps. Really, why should you pay for this stuff?<P>Meanwhile, some apps (especially gaming) tend to want money for what they do. Robo defense is one of such apps. It's a delightful tower defense game worth playing again and again. It can be as hard as you want it to be, although plenty of the achievements cannot be accomplished without a ton of upgrades. For the tower defense fans, it tends to lean towards this type or the spiral defense type stuff. If you prefer the latter, there are plenty of separate apps for that. All in all, this is worth it, with it's creative missiles/guns/etc.
