Programs open themselves in the background.
Tuesday 08th of June 2010
Sorry if this is an Android noob question but is it normal for android or the incredible to keep opening programs in the background that you haven't used? I opened Taskiller and alot of programs that I never use are open. Things like voice dialer, footprints, youtube, maps, quickoffice, etc. Is this a byproduct of android looking for updates or something? Because Id rather not have these programs running and taking up memory and processor cycles if I never open them (or in footprints case wish I could remove them).
Unnecessary programs running in the background
Sunday 24th of July 2011
Occasionally I pull up task manager to view programs that are running in the background and there are programs I have not started and have no reason to be running. Does anybody have a decent explanation as to why these programs need to be running and what starts them up? Is their some sort of task scheduler that starts these programs? For example, Spiderman will be running in the background and I never opened it.

battery life - How to properly close running apps while avast! Mobile Security is installed/ running in the background?
Monday 19th of November 2012
I've just installed avast! Mobile Security on my Samsung Galaxy SIII. Runs perfect so far, but I can't close my programs running in the background anymore. I used to do this by pressing the button below in the middle long - now this does not open up anything. How can I close them now? If I don't: will this have a negative influence on my battery (faster emptying it)? Many thanks and BR

Programs still running in the background?
Tuesday 29th of December 2009
I am constantly having to open my taskiller and killing up to 10+ apps at a time. Once I kill all running programs, I can pull up my taskiller immediately after only to find another running list of 10+ programs that are mysteriously running and taking up my memory. Programs like voice dialer, alarm clock, corporate calendar, settings, etc will be running in the background without me ever opening them. Also, I use handcent sms only but the factory Messaging app runs in the background as well. I obviously do not want to run both apps.Where do I adjust this? I can kill all these apps to have 100M of free memory, but would rather not do it every single time I turn on my droid. Thanks!

Programs running in the background

Is there any way to avoid having to constantly use task killers etc to stop all the apps and programs running in the background. I got an advance task killer and memory booster on my phone but after 2 minutes or so my phone goes back to dragging again.Sent from my DROIDX using DroidForums

Apps keep running in background - Page 2
Tuesday 20th of July 2010
That's a good question. You are not the only one with this question. I had this question a week ago when I got my Droid X and I saw those programs in the background. I read a lot about the Droid OS before I purchased the phone and it was beautiful and surprising how this OS is put together. It’s like Linux (kind of). Anyhow, I charged my phone 100% and took out the GPS, Wi-Fi, E-mail sync and Bluetooth (Turn off). I was not going to use them so I did not have to have them on. So, my phone was up and running for 1 day and 1/2 without charging. I looked at the program and they were there suspended doing nothing. So DO NOT WORRY ABOUT program running in the background. Remember, the only things that will drain your battery were mention above.

Thanks!Go to Market Place and install Automatic Task Killer (free version), set it up and don't worry about it anymore. The app shuts down all "marked" apps when the screen shuts off. You'll get a pop-up each time you turn the phone on indicating how much memory was released. If you don't either close the apps manually as you've been doing or doing the same this way (automat
