Nexus 7 stuck on the "X" screen

Wednesday 02nd of January 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Is there an issue with the Nexus 7 not loading past the "X" screen? This morning when turning on my Nexus 7, it froze on that screen... I called Google Tech and they said it was defective (after going through all of the possible reset options)... I've just completed the replacement process, so they'll be sending a new one to me soon... I just got off the phone with my parents and it turns out the Nexus 7 I purchased for my father as a birthday gift is doing the same thing to him today... That's a bit odd that the same thing would happen to us on the same day... FYI - I purchased his unit about 5 weeks after ordering mine. Anyone else having this issue, as of today? Background information:- my Nexus was up-to-date as of yesterday (all apps and Jelly Bean updated)- I was reading a magazine for Google Play when the battery indicator came on last night, so I plugged it in to recharge throughout the night (wall socket)... Powered it up this morning and that's when the problem appeared.

Stock Nexus 7 stuck on 'X' screen, even after factory reset

Wednesday 06th of February 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
So, a few days ago, I started having some problems with my stock Nexus 7 (not unlocked, no ROMs or anything like that). Some apps just wouldn't open, they would force close within a second of opening. Anyway, I think it might have stemmed from the game "Let's Golf 3", as problems started after playing that, and when going back in to it after a day of issues, a message appeared saying "Unfortunately, launcher has stopped" - it gave me the option to report or cancel, but whatever I pressed, the message popped back up. I pressed the sleep button, which seemed to turn my Nexus off somehow. Then, when trying to to turn my Nexus back on, it just stays on the 'X' screen. I have done a factory wipe through the fastboot menu a few times, but it still stays stuck on the 'X' screen. To turn it off, I hold down the power button, but it just starts the process again automatically. The only way to actually turn the device off is through the fastboot menu. I have seen talk of 'factory image' and drivers etc... but I am not too comfortable with that sort of thing. I know the ba

HELP! Nexus 7 stuck on "X" boot screen

Friday 11th of January 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I have a stock, unrooted, 32GB Nexus 7 and it has performed flawlessly. Even after the 4.2 updates, I didn't notice all the sluggishness most complained about. However, over the last few days its been giving me problems. First it would do random reboots. Then it would just stop loading any kind of internet content until I turned it off and back on again. Then the most disturbing thing that started to worry me happened where if I turned it off it would get stuck on the "X" and it would have to press the power button to shut it down and try again. Tonight, it won't do anything at all. I've tried doing a hard reset and it doesn't work. I'm pretty desperate. As you can probably tell, I'm not the biggest tinkerer. I know basic trouble shooting but I'm not very advanced in doing backups or flashing ROMs or anything like that. So it really troubles me that my N7 might just be toast since I probably can't figure it out on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Android Central Forums

[GUIDE] Nexus 7 - Factory Image Restore - Page 3

Tuesday 11th of September 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
Great guide and very helpful. However, I have completed the steps several times (and tried just about everything that I can possibly think of) and I get stuck at the Nexus "X" screen. I completely wiped the device, tried older factory images, tried to do a factory reset through TWRP, did several battery pulls, let it sit for several hours after flashing the factory image, changed USB ports, flashed all of the files separately (instead of the zip file), etc. I can boot into fastboot and successfully write all of the files to the Nexus (in other words, there are no problems with writing the system, userdata, recovery, and boot images). I can even lock and unlock the tablet with no problems. I have tried the toolkits but they are saying that the device isn't recognized (probably because I can't get into the developer options to turn on usb debugging). This isn't that big of deal though because I can do everything that they do through the command lines. I am completely stuck! Could this be a hardware issue? I just don't get how it gets stuck at the X screen (and it doesn't boot

Won't Turn On, Won't Turn Off

Thursday 27th of June 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
My Nexus 7 is stuck on the "X" screen. After about 3 hours on the "X" screen, I rebooted it (held the power button for 10 seconds) and it went to black screen, then "Google" screen, then "X" screen, and it's stuck there again. It does this whether it's plugged in or not. I've read the advice here to let it cool down for about 20 minutes, but how can I do that when I can't turn it off either - do I just have to wait for the battery to drain? Also, it doesn't feel warm at all. In case it's relevant, this tablet has been working fine for almost a year, and it's not rooted. Any help would be appreciated.

Another stuck on the "x" screen issue

Wednesday 30th of October 2013 / androidforums.com
My wife was at work when she received her new refurbished google nexus 7 2012 (ebay purchase). She turned it on and started playing with it.Than she went to input a password and thought she was pressing the backspace, however she pressed the enter button. Not remembering the password that she entered, this was a problem. When she got home our son started playing with it, it was working fine, than froze up.Our son than thought he could fix it and told me he did a wipe/recovery. When I got the tablet it would come on, show google, than freeze at the "x". I got my desktop computer see it (windows 7) but could not explore it. I downloaded skd manager and can use fastboot, cmd commands. I got it now that when turned on it will show it's battery condition, than google, than freeze at the "x" screen. Is it really necessary to do a total wipe and reload the operating image, or is it fixable? Thanks!
