What's using all my RAM (and should I worry)?

Thursday 25th of April 2013 / androidforums.com
OK, so, relatively recently, I've noticed my RAZR MAXX just running slow. When I checked "apps" and looked at what was "running," that little indicator at the bottom of the screen which indicates RAM "used" and "free" was hovering dangerously close to the not-very-much left free line. Out of a total of 840 MB, I had less than 100 free.I was running slow again this morning, so I checked it. It had about 100 MB free. I turned the phone off and on again (first line of defense for any issue) and, on reboot, I was back up to about 300 MB free, and the phone is much less laggy in its current state. My question: What the heck was using all that RAM? Sure, there were a few more apps open before the reboot, but not enough to account for 200 MB.My other question: Does this mean I should use a Task Killer? I used to use one in the olden days (back on my OG Droid), but everyone convinced me that Android was designed to run with apps just doing their thing in the background, and Task Killers were unnecessary.(My third question: Am I right to assume that the

Slow and Laggy Rooted Droid

Sunday 16th of May 2010 / droidforums.net
Excuse me for my newness and not really knowing everything, but I had a quick question and hoping someone could answer it. I have had my droid for a little over a month and I rooted it about 3 weeks ago. It has been running awesome and super fast but today it has been super laggy and slow everytime I use my phone. Scrolling from each panel is very slow and most of the time an error message comes up saying "android.home process not responding" Basically the force close. I don't have any custom roms, I'm just using custom kernals and I usually run at about 800 to 1000 MHz. Any ideas on why its so laggy. Thank you in advance!

A bunch of android OS questions

Friday 13th of January 2012 / android.net
Newbie here, so I hope that these questions are in the correct forum. I am running v2.3.3, and using a Macbook with OS 10.6.71. is there a way of 'speed scrolling' to the top of pages (eg. top of my twitter feed or the top of a pdf document)? I know my iPhone allowed me to touch the status bar to return to the top of a page2. notifications of email - is there a way to set notifications so that the phone vibrates more than once? I use the GMail app.3. any suggestions on the best app to manage large music libraries? I am having trouble with Kies on the Mac (it is very slow to start, slow to load files, doesn't always sync my phone, etc). I found Winamp for Mac beta better (I'm early on in my trial of this product), but at first blush it seems slower.4. my phone is unlocked. Is there an OS for this phone newer than 2.3.3?Thank you in advance. Glad to be part of what seems to be a very vibrant community!Sent from my GT-I9100M using Android.net

Monday 05th of March 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
hey guys, im a proud owner of a new galaxy note, im still in the process of getting used to Android from my apple iphone (i owned all generations of the iphone up to the 4) i am content with the phone, however is anyone else noticing VERY SLOW internet loading times? i mean come on, i havent been so frustrated with loading times on any of my devices (laptop, iphone, ipad, etcetc) for the past couple years. i know the specs of this phone is supposed to be better than an iphone 4, however why is the internet so slow? i doubt it is my internet connection because i compared and made couple webpage loading times with my iphone 4. (I am running the tests on my wifi) the green loading bar takes forever to reach the max. i say estimated about 5~15 seconds more than my iphone when i ran a few tests. also, do you guys notice the 4g and the 4g LTE signal on your phones? im not too sure, but i dont think i have seen a "4g LTE" signal as of yet.. Please reply to this thread as i would like to know how others are dealing with their phones!im hoping that my phone is a defected one so tha

Droid X running EXTREMELY slow...AGAIN!

Tuesday 24th of August 2010 / androidforums.com
Hello, and thanks ahead of time for your help. Basically, my Droid X is running extremely slow. scrolling between home screens is very choppy. Launching the app drawer and scrolling through it is choppy as well. Switching text messages or even opening one is very slow. I have done multiple hard resets and soft resets. each time it works for a little while but gets worse than before. I do use an app killer, but only on non-automatically starting applications (such as RoboDefense or Droid Light). On my app killer i see i ALWAYS have around 100mb of memory. I have tried disabling my SD card. It works for a little while but gets slow again. I only have about 5 or 6 applications installed, my home screens don't have many widgets if any at all. I have tried clearing my cache off apps and force closing. I don't have a live wallpaper, and I have the stock launcher. I'm on Android 2.1. The only thing really on my SD card is about 1Gb or less of music. NOTHING WORKS! Please, any tips? Should i return the phone? Should I try and switch for a DInc, D2 or even a D1? thanks again guys Also, I usua

Where is my memory???

Sunday 06th of June 2010 / forums.androidcentral.com
I am an Android noob. I have the Dinc. I know the phone has 512mb of RAM & 512mb of ROM. My Incredible seems to be running very slow! I have had it since 6/4. Is there a memory leak somewhere or anything I can do to free up more memory? Task Killer shows only 185mb free after killing tasks. Where is the rest of my 512mb? Thanks in advance for your help.

Slow bootup - busybox?

Friday 25th of March 2011 / androidforums.com
Okay, so currently I'm running a custom rom and my phone is rooted with busybox installed, BUT ever since I was running on the stock rom I tried to install busybox with the BusyBox tool from Stephen(Stericson) on the marketplace (which did not work) but ever since than my boot time has been very slow between the virgin mobile splash screen to the android splash screen resulting in a blank screen, sometimes only for seconds but every once in a while it will take around four minutes to get past. Is there anyway of reversing that tool that seems to have messed with my bootup?I do now have busybox installed from my custom rom but again keep in mind I've been having this problem since before I installed this rom and was using the stock Virgin Mobile rom.

Phone running extremely slow

Monday 18th of July 2011 / androidforums.com
Hi! What could be reasons for my LG GT540 to run very slow? I tried to unistall some applications, deleted large video files from memory card, but it still does not help. If I restart my phone, it gets better, but after some time it becomes more and more slow. P.S. I have Android 1.6 and my phone is not even a month old...

jquery on android is very slow compared to windows phone

Sunday 24th of November 2013 / androidforums.com
My website uses jQuery and the it's main feature uses a loop. On the desktop, all 3 browsers (GC, FF, IE11) executes the loop approx. 1,100 times a minute. On Windows Phone, it does 1,000 times a minute, a bit slower. But on Android in particular, it only gets about 500, and the UI updating is slow. I don't know about iPhone. Can anyone give me advice on why my jQuery is running much slower on Android then the rest of the platforms I've tested? Thanks!
