Swype 3.0 Entering Beta Today

Sunday 12th of June 2011 / everythingandroid.org
The latest version of Swype, 3.0, is entering closed beta today and members of the beta program are encouraged to download this latest version and put it through its paces.Swype 3.0 includes:Tap correction: this feature allows for streamline tapping of the keys, as opposed to using the trademark tracing feature. Tap correction offers auto-correct and prediction to taps, now, as well as tracing.Horizontal word choice: Swype has traditionally used that popup window when your traced pattern has more than one possible word to choose from, but in Swype 3.0 this will be changed to a horizontal bar above the keyboard, similar to the way most touch screen keyboard applications work.Swype 3.0 will support a host of device displays, including HVGA, WVGA, FWVGA, QVGA, WQVGA, WSVGA, qHD and a Honeycomb version, as well, for tablets. The beta will go up on http://beta.swype.com/ but no word yet as to whether or not Swype will be accepting new users for the beta at this time.[Mobile Crunch]Related posts:Swype Enters Open BetaSwype Beta 3.25 Available Now!Swype for Android opens up betaSwype Beta

Don’t Like TouchWiz on the Epic 4G Touch? Use Sprint ID to Quickly Return to a more Stock Experience

Tuesday 27th of September 2011 / phandroid.com
We’ll admit it, we didn’t get the point of Sprint ID when they first announced it. It’s grown on us over time, though, and for more reasons than one. For some of Sprint’s ID enabled phones, like the Epic 4G Touch, it can help you say goodbye to TouchWiz. If for some reason you don’t like TouchWiz 4 on the Epic 4G Touch, simply launch Sprint ID, press “Switch IDs” and press “My ID”.This will give you a launcher that’s closer to stock with the traditional popup window for adding wallpapers, widgets and shortcuts making a return. We also recommend installing the “Clean” ID pack if you want to take it a step further. This will give you an all black background and only four icons on the homescreen to start. Be sure to discuss other options (such as third-party launchers from the market) below!

Slow and freezing GNex

Friday 30th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hi all,I didn't post this in the GNex forum as that forum is not so busy anymore. I have a Verizon GNex which I am ready to throw out the window. I will have to live with this thing for up to 4 more months. The phone is VERY laggy. It is more so when it is in landscape mode and I am trying to type. I often get the popup about an app not responding, I know now to hit wait and it will eventually come back. My wife has a Droiz Razr Maxx which actually has a slightly lower end processor than my GNex but her phone feels so much faster. I I just recently factory reset my phone and installed CM10.1.3 RC1 hoping to get a speed bump but no luck. I am running the latest Franco kernel at 1.5Ghz. Antutu benchmarks have my phone at a fairly high overall score of 9971. I've noticed though that there is one subscore which is pretty low. That is SDCard Write. It is 48. This is much lower than even a stock GNex gets (According to the Antutu comparisons the Gnex is at a score of 96 for the SDcard write.). I am thinking/hoping that this is the reason for my phone being so slow. Any thoughts on how to

KitKat Feature Spotlight: New Storage Access Framework Makes Opening Files A More Consistent And Attractive Experience

Thursday 31st of October 2013 / feedproxy.google.com
Many mobile users who regularly access their files across multiple devices have found that relying on cloud storage just makes life simpler, but many of us don't keep our files stored in just one place. Now Android 4.4 is rolling out a new way to open files within apps that makes accessing all of these providers both easier and prettier. With KitKat's new storage access framework, apps that prompt users to browse for files will open a sidebar navigation menu that lists recent files, available cloud storage providers, and files stored internally. This new system is far more attractive than the popup window Android apps currently toss up, and it provides a more intuitive experience. Users won't have to enter what appears to be a separate app to load a file. Now, regardless of whether they're pulling data from Dropbox, Google Drive, or their local gallery, they will be presented with a consistent experience. For developers, here are two DevBytes videos with more information. Most devices with Android 4.4 will come with Google Drive and local storage available out of the box, but it only
