Looking for free music? Here are your legal options

Wednesday 20th of July 2011 / androidforums.com
A lot of people ask about "free mp3 download" apps and 90% of those fall under a legal grey area (if not being downright illegal). So I thought it helpful to show people they can still get good music without breaking the law or resorting to dangerous* and illegal means.* some of the free mp3 download apps have been known to include malwareSo here are ways to stream, share, and store music that are legal (to the best of my knowledge)**Google Music http://music.google.com/https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.musicGoogle Music Chinahttp://www.google.cn/music/homepage (in Chinese)Amazon MP3http://www.amazon.com/MP3-Music-Download/b?ie=UTF8&node=163856011https://market.android.com/details?id=com.amazon.mp3iTunes - (if you have to use an Apple product... )http://www.apple.com/itunes/Spotify - (free & paid options for download/streaming)http://www.spotify.com/https://market.android.com/details?id=com.spotify.mobile.android.uiPandorahttp://www.pandora.com/https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pandora.androidSlackerhttp://www.slacker.com/https://mar

Google Snubs RIAA Order to Remove Music Downloading App from Market - Android Authority

Tuesday 15th of November 2011 / androidauthority.com
Google’s stance on music piracy is really hard to determine these days. Just recently, the search giant denied the request of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to take down MP3 Music Download Pro from the Android Market.  The music organization accuses the Android app of encouraging piracy through mobile devices.According to a report on Technorati, The RIAA sent the takedown notice in August, but to date, Google has still refused to take action. The latter argues that the app can be used to download legal files despite RIAA allegation that it is “clearly being used for illegal purposes.”Other download apps with similar functionality, such as MP3 Music Download Super and Easy MP3 Downloader, are still available and can be installed via the Android Market. Google’s defiance of removing these apps contradicts its past decision when it previously removed Music Junk, Music Zilla, etc., from the Android Market.Despite the previous removal of apps for illegal downloading, the RIAA complained that Google does not stop new apps from taking over their banished s

Google butts heads with the RIAA over MP3 Music Download Pro

Monday 14th of November 2011 / androidheadlines.com
MP3 Music Download Pro, currently sitting pretty at #4 in the US Android Market’s Free Apps sales list. This is a bit of a thorn on the side of the Reichstag Recording Industry Association of America, because in the right light, taking all things into account, calling a spade a spade and generally telling it like it is… it’s a piracy app. When asked to remove it from the Market, Google refused, stating that the application could be used to download legal music as well. The defense is often used for controversial technologies, most notably BitTorrent listings and clients. The app does a modified Google search for an artist, song or album, then downl…Continue Reading HereGoogle butts heads with the RIAA over MP3 Music Download ProMichael Crider – androidcommunity.com

Is mp3 Ringtone Maker legal?

Wednesday 17th of October 2012 / androidforums.com
I searched this out and couldn't find a decent answer. It seems that it might search public domains and download the song to your phone where you can then edit it and set as a ringtone. It just seemed a little shady to me that you could download an entire song. Should I be concerned that the riaa or whoever would say that I'm doing something illegal? I certainly have no intention of downloading full free songs to listen to. I just want ringtones. If it's illegal why is it on google play? Thanks
