Comparing the iPhone 5 to the Droid Razr Maxx HD

Wednesday 12th of September 2012 / androidguys.com
Apple’s big, annual smartphone release, the iPhone 5, is out and ready for your consideration.  But, with so many other options available from Android manufacturers, should you look to Apple? Is the 4-inch display and 4G LTE version of what amounts to last year’s phone worth your money? Here’s a quick head-head chart that breaks down the main hardware differences between the iPhone 5 and the Motorola Droid Razr HD.  Keep in mind that these devices are not sold strictly on the merit of hardware.  If that were the case, Android would own even higher market share.  No, consumers like to buy based on experience, features, and other intangibles.  To that end, Apple does quite well, however Android players are getting better all the time.See Also: Comparing the iPhone 5 to Galaxy S IIISee Also: Comparing the iPhone 5 to HTC One XBattle of the 2012 smartphoneApple iPhone 5Motorola Droid Razr HD MaxxOS iOS6Android 4.0Display4-inch 1136×6404.7” 720p Super AMOLED HDProcessorA61.5 GHz dual-coreMemory1GB RAMStorage32GBExpandable StoragemicroSD 32GBCamera (rear) 8

Apple: We’ll Pay $1 to Motorola For Every iPhone Sold to License Essential Patents, But Not a Penny More – Droid Life

Thursday 01st of November 2012 / droid-life.com
Here is an interesting development out of the many Apple vs. Android court cases that are going on around the world today. Up until now, Apple has seemed vehemently against licensing anything from Android, but their lawyers told a court in Wisconsin that they would pay $1 to Motorola for every iPhone sold to use essential patents. There is still four days before the trial starts, so things have yet to get underway, but this is certainly a change in tone from other patent spats. I’m sure Moto will be looking for more than this amount, but if Apple’s iPhone keeps selling like they have been, they stand to make a good amount of money if some type of deal is settled on.What do you think? Can the two giants finally work something out?Via: Electronista

Samsung adds iPhone 5 to patent complaints against Apple

Tuesday 02nd of October 2012 / androidcentral.com
As soon as the U.S. sales ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was lifted, Samsung leaped back into the legal offensive, tacking on the iPhone 5 to its own patent claims against Apple. The fresh complaints are an amendmentto Samsung's original lawsuit, but surprisingly don't have anything to do with LTE (a technology for which Samsung holds a handful of patents). The patents in question include six utility patents and two UMTS standard essential ones, which are all listed below.Method and apparatus for performing non-scheduled transmission in a mobile communication system for supporting an enhanced uplink data channelMethod and apparatus for signaling control information of uplink packet data service in mobile communication systemAudio/video device having a volume control function for an external audio reproduction unit by using volume control buttons of a remote controller and volume control method thereforMultimedia synchronisation method and deviceData displaying apparatus and methodSoftware keyboard system using trace of stylus on a touch screen and method for recognising key code

Monday 10th of May 2010 / androidspin.com
The NPD Group released the latest Mobile Phone track and Android outsold the iPhone 28% to 21%.  Every month the NPD processes around 150,000 online consumer research surveys. This information is compiled and analyzed and we are very happy with the latest results.Blackberry is still the market leader but it’s a step in the right direction for Android.  The success of the Verizon Motorola DROID is obviously the reason for this leap in the market.  No other phone has been so vastly popular before.Device promotions are apparently one of the main factors for the increase in sales with cheaper prices and free extra phones when you purchase one.“As in the past, carrier distribution and promotion have played a crucial role in determining smartphone market share,” said Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis for NPD. “In order to compete with the iPhone, Verizon Wireless has expanded its buy-one-get-one offer beyond RIM devices to now include all of their smartphones.”With so many current releases and hopefully a plethora of surprises coming at G
