How well does the mobile hotspot work?

Thursday 06th of December 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
I'm going to get one of these next week and I'm looking to get the 4gb + Mobile Hotspot plan for $50 (upgrading a dumbphone on the Nationwide 700 minutes plan, so not quite the Share Everything plan, I guess). Ideally, I'd like to get the phone and this plan and drop my home internet altogether (paying $51/month just for ~12mbps down/1mbps up). So how well does the mobile hotspot work? It's 4G, correct? and while it's sharing it's connection can I still receive calls, texts, data on the phone and use it as I normally would? Any limitations I should be aware of?

3G Mobile Hotspot works without adding?!

Tuesday 31st of August 2010 / forums.androidcentral.com
I installed 2.2 this morning with the 3G mobile hotspot. I was under the impression that if you didn't have the hotspot feature on your account that it referred you to the website to add it. Well, this morning I started the app and clicked to start the 3G wifi tethering and a message came up that said "Processing" and it started working...it didn't refer me to the feature page or anything. I just checked my account and the 3G hotspot feature is unchecked, so I know I don't have it. How does this work, what are the charges...

Will hotspot/tethering work for me?

Saturday 25th of February 2012 / droidforums.net
I am asking here on the Inc2 forum so any info will maybe closely apply to my situation. I am just pondering the possibility of using my phone as the modem for my home network. Right now I have a pc and a laptop running off a gateway to Mediacom cable high speed at 10 whatevers.I live in a small town far from city lights, where Verizon's 4G doesn't exist even if the Inc2 was designed for it. Their 3G works well at my house but not constant in town.I'm not looking to fly undercover... if I pay Verizon the mobile hotspot charge and stop cable internet, what kind of changes can I expect in the performance of my home network? How close will my phone have to be to the other computers for connection? Does an incoming call disrupt the hotspot connection, etc.? Any thoughts/input/experiences appreciated very much. Thanks.Sent from....uh... where is this again?

How well does Verizon Hotspot work on the S4?

Thursday 26th of September 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
For those who have used the built-in Verizon Hotspot app on the S4, what has your experience been? (I'm not talking about FoxFi or any rooted method.) The reason I ask is because I had problems with the hotspot feature on previous phones I've owned like the Droid Razr. I will be on the Share Everything plan after I add two lines in December. At least one line will probably use the Samsung S4 and will need mobile Hotspot for travel. Any problems keeping your devices connected to hotspot? Any problems getting Web pages loaded? I really appreciate any input. Sent from Droid Razr MAXX HD

3 Phone SIM blocked in tablet...

Friday 24th of January 2014 / androidforums.com
I have a problem with using a phone SIM in my Sony Xperia Z tablet. I have a 3 Mobile 'One-Plan' phone SIM that allows tethering in a spare S3 mobile phone running as a hotspot, and I use my tablet tethered to that. When I place the SIM in the tablet I get the SIMblock message and a link that offers to charge me more for a grossly limited data per month tablet plan. How might I get around this ridiculous state of affairs? If I can tether, why not just let me use the chip as I see fit anyway?? This is not a tether blocking problem, the tethering works fine, it's a SIM transferability problem. I know the T&Cs are against this but the net effect will be the same so I might as well set it up for my convenience rather than theirs!Does it work by IMEI in which case I guess changing the IMEI would work, which might be illegal in some places (though I'm sure I could go to some country where it isn't, change the IMEI, and come back...)The weirdest thing is, I have an older 3 phone SIM (same plan) working in another identical tablet without any problems!
