How to use your desktop as a SMS workstation [without Google Voice] – Droid Life

Tuesday 08th of February 2011 / droid-life.com
I’ve been running into a certain phone-related problem with alarming frequency lately: I come home from class and throw all my gear down in a pile at the foot of my bed. As a result, my phone remains hidden in my jacket’s pocket or inside my bag, and I will miss SMS notifications until either my phone dies or I finally notice something is awry. A simple answer to this would be to simple clean up my room, but I’ve found a more Android solution.I’ve fixed this problem with a two applications that are free to the market and work quite well. With them, I’ve found a way to be notified of and answer SMS from the comfort of my browser window.[Author's Note: The comments for this article overwhelmingly tell me that Google Voice is a simpler option for what I'm about to describe. Say, the full 15 inches of your trusty laptop compared to the 3-some inches on your phone. Wouldn't it be awesome to use the 3G service you are REQUIRED to pay for on a device other than your phone? With Android, you can! "But wait!" you say, "I don't pay for Verizon/Sprint/AT&T/TMo's overpriced BS that they call mobile tethering. So I am screwed right?" There you would be wrong. You see, there is an amazing app called that lets you use that glorious 3G connection that you have on your phone, and use it to surf the web on your laptop, PC or Mac. Steps:1.Download PDAnet from the marketplace2.Install the PDAnet server for your OS of choice 3.You will have to restart your computer4. Hook up your phone, run PDAnet and follow the instructions! note: on my Mac I had to turn on wifi to get the computer to connect properly. But I connected to a network I knew did not have connection to the internet. For most people, you should just be a

How to use my s3 like a desktop

Tuesday 16th of October 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
I'm brainstorming ideas on how to work this out. Things I'm looking to confirm: With the new 11 pin MHL adapter, is it possible to connect to a monitor and use the OTG functions?(use a flash/external drive AND output to a separate monitor...Ive seen people say that you can and can't) and Has anyone tried hooking up a USB monitor as an output device? I want to be able to just plug in my phone at my desk and use it for browsing and e-mails and such. Thanks!
