Friday 31st of August 2012 / droid-life.com
The lock screen on your Android phone will forever be your most visited screen. Every single time you turn your phone on or wake it up, you have to do something at the lock screen. For some, a simple slide of the lock icon will unlock your phone, but for others, a level of security is required. This is a quick tutorial on how to change to the various lock screens, so that you can keep your phone secure. Instructions:1.  From your home screen, enter into Settings>Security>Screen lock.2.  From here, you can choose a lock screen option.Slide:  The least secure. With this option, you can slide the lock to the right to unlock your phone, to the left to jump straight into the camera, and up (on Jelly Bean devices) to access Google Now. One of the major benefits over the others, is that it allows you to check your notifications without having to unlock your device. None of the others will allow you to do that.Face Unlock:  This lock screen allows you to unlock your device by having it recognize your face. It’s not the most practical option, but it is fun to show off to your

Nexus S - How To Enable Face Unlock

Friday 13th of January 2012 / androidauthority.com
Older devices such as the Google Nexus S were popular phones that Google and Samsung worked on together. Source code for ICS was released officially into the AOSP in late 2011, and Google Nexus S users got a taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices quite shortly after that. The upgrade proved to be a smashing success, offering new UI elements and an awesome set of features. However, there is one thing that the upgrade missed out–Face Unlock, arguably one of the interesting highlights of Ice Cream Sandwich. The reason behind the missing feature was the Google Nexus S’s front-facing VGA camera. High-end phones such as the Galaxy Nexus sport a secondary camera of at least 1.3 MP that is also capable of 720p video recording. While some people consider the Face Unlock feature an overhyped marketing scheme to lure consumers into purchasing the Galaxy Nexus, others find it one of the coolest, innovative features found in Ice Cream Sandwich. If you think that Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t complete without Face Unlock, then you’re just one of the many users out

How to lock/unlock the touch screen during a call (otherwise I keep touching it with my ear)

Sunday 23rd of October 2011 / androidforums.com
Hi, I have a Milestone 2 and I use this app:https://market.android.com/details?id=i4nc4mp.myLockto lock the touch screen during a call. This is because, with every single touchscreen smartphone I ever tried, Android or not, I always find myself ending the call or changing some setting touching the screen with my ear. This app is great and solves my problem, but it requires pushing the camera button to unlock the screen when I want to end a call. Since I understand the Droid 3 does not have a camera button:is there a way to remap another button (eg volume rocker) to act like the camera button?oris there another similar app which would not require a camera button? Thanks.PS I understand most users probably do not have this problem, but after years and years of trying I have come to realise it's better to find a way to lock the screen than to surgically alter my ears so they don't get in the way

Liveness Check added to Jelly Bean Face Unlock security feature

Saturday 30th of June 2012 / talkandroid.com
We all remember how cool the new Face Unlock feature was for Android 4.o Ice Cream Sandwich when it was announced a while back. Today it’s still a nifty trick to show off to your iPhone buddies or at parties, but we all know that it’s far from foolproof. The fact that one could just simply use a still photo of the phone owner to access all their content was a little disappointing and relegated this security feature to basic social entertainment.//Well Google listened to the constructive criticism and updated Face Unlock with their new ‘Liveness Check‘ function for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean devices. Liveness Check will wait for the phone owner to blink before proceeding to unlock the phone. Now I know some of you are going to go out on the highest tree limb and say that someone could just present a video of the phone owner to access the forbidden. Sure, I guess that’s true but how many of you actually have videos of people that are simply looking directly into the camera. If you have that intimate of a video, it’s probably safe to assume that you are cl
