How to turn my Hero into a dedicated music player

Thursday 07th of March 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I have an old Hero that I don't use as a phone anymore, and I'd like to disable the phone functions and turn it into a music player. Something like Rockbox, but sadly that doesn't work on Android. I'd like a player that supports FLAC if possible, to avoid wasting time converting my music to MP3. Any suggestions?

localization - How to switch the layout of a hardware keyboard without changing language?

Tuesday 14th of December 2010 / android.stackexchange.com
I have bought German T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream), and thus I have German hardware keyboard. In stock firmware I used English language, but the keyboard was still German - that was OK. I got used to that layout, and all was well. Then I upgraded firmware to CM6.0, keyboard was still German. Then I went restored backup of stock 1.6 firmware, and suddenly android thinks that I have US keyboard. I can't type quickly because the symbols printed on the keyboard are for German keyboard, but the keystrokes generate characters for US English. Is there a file containing the key mappings, that I can save using adb with correct layout and restore on the firmware with wrong layout? Thanks.

How to get google map into a chinese Note?

Saturday 22nd of June 2013 / androidforums.com
A foreign student from china brought a chinese samsung note I9220 and want to install an usa GPS app on it. My first thought was google map.But I'm stumped because it has no google play app on it. And he has no idea how to download apps; the phone was given to him by some friend. When I plug the phone into my pc's usb port, it is not recognized as a device. There is samsung aires on it though, so files may be transferred that way.Google site says if the phone doesn't come with google play, there's no support for downloading it.I did some search and found some mention of downloading three google related apk files from some unknown servers. It is not clear if this would work on the particular android (2.3.6 gingerbread) on his phone, and I'm reluctant to download apps from an unknown server. I wonder if downloading an amazon app store is a good idea. It has no google map but has waze and some other gps apps. How do people in china download android apps? And what is the easiest way to get google map onto his phone?
