how fast should wi-fi hotspot tethering in 4G be? (17mbps speed)

Monday 16th of April 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
how fast should wi-fi hotspot tethering in 4G be? When I checked using several speed test sites, my Galaxy Nexus is getting up to 17mbps download speed from Verizon's 4G network. (usuallyaverages around 11mbps to 15mbps) when I turned on hotspot, my PC and laptop is only getting 3mbps to 5mbps from the GN's wi-fi output. (all in the same room... or even when next to each other) Is this normal? Thanks!

Using the Nexus 7 as an (almost) daily driver

Monday 06th of August 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
I've seen many articles about editors using the nexus 7 out and about because of its portability and size. So, I was wondering how many users of the nexus 7 actually use it out and about, while at work or in a restaurant. I've been using my nexus 7 in situations where I would normally use my phone. All I have to do is set up my galaxy nexus as a hotspot, for data, and connect my tablet to my phone using tablet talk, so I can text through my nexus 7. The nexus 7 is so portable it can fit in any pocket or small bag and is light enough to carry around. I have hardly used my phone for browsing and the like since I bought my nexus 7. So I'm curious to know if any other people have pretty much used their nexus 7 as a daily diver, using their phone every now and then to make calls. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Android Central Forums

Using Chromecast with Android Phone Hotspot (AP isolation issue)

Saturday 27th of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
So I found myself in a Best Buy yesterday and decided to pick up a Chromecast, even though I already have one coming in the mail from the Play store. Plugged it in and started going through the setup process to find that it wouldn't connect to my Galaxy Nexus hotspot running FoxFi. Looked all though the very limited settings in FoxFi and the Hotspot and Tethering Settings in the OS with and can not figure out how to disable AP isolation on the phone. I should also note that I do not plan on using my Galaxy Nexus as the remote for the chromecast since WiFi access is shut off while it is in hotspot mode. I have a Windows laptop and Nexus 7 to control the device. The Galaxy Nexus just serves as the internet connection and router. So for those extreme cord cutters that don't have a internet connection in their homes and a router, is the Chromecast useless? Or is there another option to get this to work? Anyone know how or if it is possible to disable AP isolation in Android? Thanks

Battery Drain SINCE I started using Wifi Hotspot

Thursday 01st of August 2013 / androidforums.com
Hi guys,I need your wisdom here because I'm going crazy..Since a couple of weeks I have noticed a terrible battery drain, like battery being out in 5 hours with absolutely no use, even in Airplane mode :/I tried everything: new battery, new charger, factory reset, flash OS again, disabling google apps and location services..It all started I guess since I have used my phone as wifi hotspot. I know during the thethering battery goes out quickly, but it happens also when the phone is not tethering..I guess I have messed up something with radios, because when I used betterbatterystats I saw ConnectivityService as main wakelock, and using only 2g networks the situazion improves..Any idea on how to solve this please?? I'm dying..I have a Galaxy Nexus running stock 4.2.2 and root.

LG's radios and HotSpot apps?

Monday 19th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
The last LG phone I owned was a flip phones years ago so I have no idea how good the radios are on the LG Smartphones. Right now I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and truly I love the phone and since I got it on release date I have not had any major problems with it. But the battery down right sucks and the radios are not great! I thought about the S4 when it came out but pretty much hearing the same about its radios too. So people who have had LG phones what do y'all think about the radios? I hear Moto's are the best but really loving everything on this G2. One more question, right now I use the SVTP app to turn my phone into a Hotspot without paying the monthly fee. Have also seen people mention FoxFi a lot to do the same (both without root). Anybody know if LG supports these two apps? Or any other app that can do the same thing?

automatically toggle hotspot feature with tasker or other app

Friday 27th of December 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Before I had my MAXX, I had a Galaxy Nexus. I used tasker to turn on my hotspot when in the car so my tablet (gps) would have data. It was all automated and working quite well. Now that I have upgraded to the MAXX, I'm having difficulty figuring out how to get this automation. Has anyone had any success with tasker, or another app? My old tasker app would turn on the hotspot when the phone connected to my in-car bluetooth. That's essentially what I'm looking to do now. Is root the only way? I've never rooted and would rather not get involved in doing so.
