HOWTO: Create Magnificent Home screens With Desktop VisualizeR

Friday 28th of January 2011 / androidspin.com
I downloaded Desktop VisualizeR a couple weeks ago because the idea of the application seemed great. The description states “Desktop VisualizeR(DVR) makes shortcuts or widgets with the image specified or the icon of another application for the Home screen.” Sounded good. After playing with the settings and trying to figure the app out, I got lost and gave up.Last night while doing some research for something completely different, I stumbled upon a French site that ended up giving me everything I could ever want to know about it and how to use it. I was in heaven. This HOWTO guide will show you the application and a few websites for you to have at your disposal. Later I will compile another HOWTO guide on using Photoshop to truly customize your own widget icons.First up is the application. The app uses widgets to create home screen icons. Once the app is installed, long press on your home screen, select ‘widgets’, then find the widget size you are wanting to create. You have 11 different sized widgets to choose from.  In the image next to each description is

How to create gorgeous homescreen layouts with LauncherPro Plus and Desktop Visualizer

Monday 20th of September 2010 / androinica.com
It’s commendable how versatile, customizable and open Android is, unlike some other mobile platforms, and nearly every aspect of the OS can be personalized. Many people, me included, want their phones to not only be functional, but fun, unique and elegant as well. The combination of LauncherPro Plus and the widget Desktop Visualizer is yet another way to make your Android reflect your personal preferences. Here’s a tutorial for creating a tile based homescreen with custom shortcut icons, vaguely resembling Windows Phone 7. At the bottom of the post are screen shots of a few layouts I have on my HTC Desire, and they will give you an idea of what you can make LauncherPro look like with this method. Download LauncherPro and purchase the Plus version. You need it to resize widgets properly. In LauncherPro, activate the “five rows” option from Preferences > Advanced > 5 icon rows in homescreens. Install the Desktop Visualizer widget. It’s free. Long-press on your homescreen and select “Desktop Visualizer (2×1)” for shortcuts with a horizontal design, and

Polaroid Tiles for Your Launcher 7 or Desktop VisualizeR

Monday 11th of July 2011 / androidspin.com
The say there is a fine line between genius and insanity. They also say that insanity is defined by repeating the same action expecting different results. I can definitely agree that siravarice doesn’t fall into the insane category. At least not in the traditional sense, but I don’t know the guy personally. What I do know is what he has created and shared stands out beyond the norm.Often times icons for your standard launcher are just reworked version of what already exists. Tiles for Launcher 7 or Desktop VisualizeR tend to add a little more flare to your device, though most of them will give a feeling of a Windows device. Which not all of us are comfortable with. Take a look at what XDA member siravarice did with a simple design concept of using the iconic Polaroid Camera film.Such an amazing idea, I love how the font is in hand written sharpie marker. Man I miss my Polaroid. If these are too your liking, then by all means head on over to siravarice’s XDA Page for a link to download his images. Don’t forget to hit the ‘Thanks’ button too!S

How to get the Windows Mobile 7 look

Saturday 30th of October 2010 / forums.androidcentral.com
I posted this in the Evo Hacks section a few days ago. Since you don't actually have to be rooted or anything to do this setup I figured I'd post this here. If you're gonna make a post anything along the lines of "if you wanted a WM7 look then why don't you get a WM7 phone" just leave now. If you feel this way then obviously you don't understand the beauty of customization with Android where anyone can do anything you want. This is a Windows Mobile 7 homescreen theme. It's fairly easy to do. You need the following: Launcher Pro Plus (not sure how to do it with ADW, but I'll look into it) and Desktop Visualizer (free in the market). Here are the instructions.. Instructions:1. Download the icons that you wish to use. I have some of my custom ones here that I've done myself. Make sure that the files are in your SD card. I suggest making a specific file for the icons. (I can definitely do some custom requests as well for anyone that's interested. I can also supply some links to download other icon packs.) 2. Install LauncherPro (and activate Plus features to be able to resiz

Desktop Visualizer works flawlessly on your Gingerbread/Honeycomb Tab for replacing the stock icons on your home screens or in conjunction with Folder OrganizerFirst you place the widgets from your app drawer onto your homescreenOrganize them how you likeNow when you select an icon you will be brought to the settings page for the widget that you selectedYou will be able to choose a custom icon, the action it makes ie: open application or folder the highlight color and a few other optionsHere are the final results Here are a few icon packs I've found along the way Manups Simple Words IManups Simple Words IISimple Set (unknown Creator)The last file has the PS Template so you can make your own icons in Photoshop, and a transparent icon which I used numerous times on my homescreen to let the actual wallpaper become part of the user experienceThis application is very user friendly and best of all, it's free Desktop Visualizer

How to get a Windows Mobile 7 homescreen theme

Ok so I'm completely editing this first post. This is a Windows Mobile 7 homescreen theme. It's fairly easy to do. I can also supply some links to download other icon packs. Make sure that the files are in your SD card. I made a specific file for these. 2. Install LauncherPro (and activate Plus features to be able to resize the widgets properly)3. Install Desktop Visualizer4. In LauncherPro settings, under Advanced set homescreen rows to 55. Create a Desktop Visualizer widget (4X1 for horizontal 1x2 for vertical) with chosen image, and resize to correct dimensions (3x1 horizontal or 1x2 vertical)6. Align them as you wish Notice: I use ResToggle set to Hi-Res, so it makes the gap in between the icons much wider than it is whe
