A drained battery is a common problem Android users face every day. The more cores your top-of-the-line phone has, the more battery power it consumes. Best free offline Navigation app? I say NavFree over OsmAnd & Navigator (at least for the USA).

Wednesday 05th of June 2013 / androidforums.com
Google Navigation is great if you have a data connection (or if you download some specific map tiles for offline use) but I wanted to install a free offline GPS navigation app for the rare occasions that I'm somewhere far from a data signal-- and for my spare WiFi-only Android phone. I tried three different free offline Navigation apps, NavFree, OsmAnd, & MapFactor:Navigator. All three apps are based on the free Open Street Maps so I think the content is roughly the same-- and quite good from what I could tell. (But none of them can hold a candle to Google Navigation.) I only downloaded the NavFree USA version but I liked NavFree the best. Here's why. 1) Only NavFree had an intuitive user-interface. No instructions needed. Very simple. With the other two, I struggled to figure out how to set destinations, & favorites, or find points of interest, get a direction list, etc. 2) Only NavFree allows you to navigate to a contact in your address book. 3) NavFree had the easiest map downloading. You just hit the "Upgrade" button and then select which state you want to downl

Phone is still NOT rooted. Then I saw that someone else wanted to see if it worked, but they introduced another step; namely, AFTER STEP 5 [ Went to the root folder and ran the Drivers.exe program (to install the MYHTC drivers).] I tried this also. Phone STILL NOT ROOTED !Does anyone have a way to Root the HTC EVO 4G running Android 2.3.3 Using an Offline method that does NOT wipe out your data like Revolutionary does? The Unrevoked Method does NOT work for this HTC. OR can offer a solution that does not require me to have the phone re-flashed after its rooted ?
