how do i get a Google Voice number?

Monday 01st of August 2011 / androidforums.com
I'm trying to get Google Voice working so I can make free wifi calls.I installed the app. When I start to make a call on my (LG Optimus V) phone, it just goes through like before. Nothing pops up and asks me if I want to use my regular number or my Google Voice number to make the call. When I'm on the desktop and I log on to google voice, I can click on "make a call" but the only option is to use my cell phone number; there is no google phone number to use.I looked in the app's help files and it says "if you have a google voice number, it will prompt you...."So evidently I have the google voice app, I have a google voice account, I have a google account, but I don't have the google voice number that I need to make outgoing calls on wifi through google voice.I searched all through the app on my phone and I even logged on to Google on my desktop, found google voice on my account, but I don't see anything about getting a number. Before I installed the app, for quite a while I've been using my google email account for sending text messages. I noticed that there is a ph

This means you can make the mobile number you’ve always used your Google Voice number, so it can ring any phone you want—or even your computer. To get started with Number Porting, log in to your Google Voice account, visit the Settings page and click on “Change / Port” next to your Google Voice number.Porting your number to Google Voice costs $20 and is usually completed within 24 hours. You may incur additional charges, including early termination fees, from your wireless carrier. Contact your carrier to get more details about the charges applicable to you. After porting your number to Google Voice your mobile service plan will be cancelled, and there are a couple of steps that you’ll have to take to continue making and receiving calls on your mobile device. I am changing my job description so I do not want my old phone numbers out there and I dont want want to broadcast my new phone numbers to the world. Should I get a new google phone number first and then get a new Verizon number, does it matter the order that I do this in?

Google phone Number?

Sunday 17th of January 2010 / droidforums.net
when I was having a problem with my Google talk I was told by both verizon and Motorola to go to Google help site so I thought okay you could send an e-mail or they would have an phone number listed. Come to find out google has no support number for its OS or phones. If google was going to get into the mobile phone business shouldn't they have a support number atleast? There is a number for their headquarters but there HQ wouldn't give tech support would it?Just my curiosity not really complaining.

Google voice mail (phone number) question.

Tuesday 04th of October 2011 / forums.androidcentral.com
Real noob question but hoping someone can educate me. Does Google voice require a Google phone number? The reason I ask is that with office, cell, home numbers and etc.....I don't feel like giving personal and professional contacts (yet another) number and since pretty much every phone in existence has call forwarding.... I don't think I see the value add? Can someone clue me in? Sent from my ThunderBolt using TapaTalk

Google Voice...what phone number?

Wednesday 12th of May 2010 / droidforums.net
So I have the google voice app on my droid and I have a google voice number. My question is this....Everytime I make a call with google voice it calls a google number to route the call. Is that the number that will show up on my phone bill every month when I make a call through google voice?I'm curious because I don't want to get charged minutes for calling that number if I am calling a number on my friends and family list. Also I am thinking of switching to sprint and get the EVO 4G on June 4th and you can call any mobile anytime with Sprint and I wouldn't want to get charged to call the google number if I am calling a mobile number.Anybody have some info for me?

Google Voice SMS question.

Wednesday 23rd of December 2009 / droidforums.net
I just recently joined Google Voice and signed up with a new google number. I don't plan on handing that out to my friends and family yet, but more to websites and other people I don't want to give my cell phone number to. I choose this route with the new google number so that down the road when I add more lines to my number like (home, work) and not just my mobile I can do that. But the big reason I'm not giving it out to friends is that I'm on verizon and my plan is just below the friends and family plan so everytime i make a call through my google voice number I'll be charged minutes rather than no minutes for in network calling since all my friends and family are on verizon as well so calling them from my verizon cell number is free. I realize that if I had the friends and family plan I could setup my google number as a friend and bypass this issue and the cost isn't worth it to upgrade. So my question is...I downloaded the Google Voice app for my Droid and have set it to not make calls using my google phone number because of what I wrote about in the above paragraph. But I want t

Send/Receive SMS/MMS on Separate Phone Number?

Friday 21st of June 2013 / androidforums.com
I just realized the painful reminder that, unless the sender is on Spring, you can't receive MMS using a Google Voice number. I need two numbers. The native number of my phone is my business line. I need a second number to send/receive personal sms/mms/phone calls. It's a well known major drawback that Google has not forked out the money to license MMS for all carriers. I installed WhatsApp and I verified my Google Voice number using the code, but it still sends SMS/MMS via my native phone number and I doubt it could receive MMS anyway as anyone sending MMS (except on Sprint) to my Google Voice numbers without using WhatsApp, the MMS will just get ignored by GV. WhatsApp appears to just take over your messaging and reroute it through their servers via 3G/4G/WiFi so it doesn't go through your carrier.I need full voice/sms/mms through a separate number. Too bad I've already given my GV number out, seems I'll need to get something else now. Skype number?
