Google Maps Updated To 5.6.0, Minor Changelog

Thursday 16th of June 2011 / everythingandroid.org
Google has this beautiful little habit of pushing updates out early and often, and rarely do they push them out too early, where they are more ‘broken’ than ‘early’. Google Maps was updated not too long ago, bringing the real-time transit tracking ability and here we are again with another update. This time around, the update is minor but in our eyes is really¬†cool and fun. When you visit a place, you can always choose to write up a quick review as to how your service and experience was at the location, but now you can take it one step further. Google has introduced a ‘Best Ever’ option, which allows you to mark a location as the ‘best ever’ for pizza, coffee, banking, etc. Any place you visit should have the ability to be tagged as the ‘Best Ever’, which should really help people in seeing which diner or movie theater was rated the ‘Best Ever’ by the largest amount of people.Keep it up, Goog![Android Market]Related posts:Google Maps Updated to 5.3.1 – No Changelog IncludedGoogle Maps Updated For Mobile Bro

Google Maps - Location Not Found (solved by using old version)

Tuesday 24th of April 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
Current phone setup: Optimus V IHO Backside04172012 (came from Stock Rom 2.2.2 Hitachi screen and did full wipes before flashing) I noticed when using the latest Google Maps 6.5.1 that when it initially loads and I have GPS enabled, it intermittently fails in finding my current location. If I push the GPS symbol in the Maps app, it will sometimes say 'Location Not Found' and the GPS icon is not blinking in the notification bar. Sometimes after clicking around in the app, restarting the app, or disabling/enabling GPS via notification widget, it will finally find my current location. Sometimes it starts up and finds location in about 5 seconds with no problems. It appeared that GPS was starting up fine in other apps like GPS Test, so I went to FreewareLovers and tried out previous versions. I tested the following versions:6.5.1, 6.5.0, 6.3.0 - intermittent location finding issue6.2.0, 6.1.1 - reliably finds my location Has anyone else noticed a similar issue?

Wednesday 29th of December 2010 / androidforums.com
Does anyone know where I can find an older version of Google Maps (newer than the stock with 2.2 but older than current) and/or a changelog?(Actually, knowing about this for any built-in apps would be great!)

Google Maps updates to v5.3.1, doesn't bother with a changelog [update: Got it!]

Tuesday 12th of April 2011 / androidcentral.com
We'd love to tell you all about this Google Maps v5.3.1 update but -- Google never included a changelog for us this time around. Judging by the e-mails we've received since the update started to roll out, we're not the only ones curious as to what, exactly was changed. While we don't have the answers to that, please feel free to drop some comments for us and let us know if you've spotted any changes within this update. Download is after the break for everyone. Thanks, everyone who sent this in!Update:ReaderJoe found the changelog, which reads as follows:This version should fix the Manage My Places and auto-checkins issues you've been reporting in this thread and elsewhere in the Forum.

Google Maps Receiving Tons of 1-Star Ratings Due to Lack of Changelog in Today’s Beefy 5.3.1 Update

Tuesday 12th of April 2011 / phandroid.com
Update: Changelog! Now put those pitchforks down.See your Location History dashboard if you’ve enabled Location History for LatitudeCheck in at “Home” after setting a home location in LatitudeAdd your own aspects (e.g. service, music) about places when rating themVersion 5.3.1: Fixes for Latitude’s automatic check-ins and “Manage your places”Well isn’t this just about the weirdest thing we’ve seen from one of Google’s market apps? They’ve apparently issued an upgrade to Google Maps which clocks in at 5.3MB. What’s more is that no changelog is included – something that Google usually doesn’t forget – and there are no noticeable changes within the app itself. Thus, market raters are damning Google’s free navigation and maps utility to a plethora of 1-star ratings until they ‘fess up. We’ll certainly be contacting Google for a comment. [Thanks George!]

Google Maps updated to v6.11.1, runs short on changelog information

Wednesday 29th of August 2012 / androidcentral.com
The latest Google Maps update has now appeared in the Google Play Store and shows the app has been bumped up to v6.11.1. After the last update, many HTC Rezound users had issues and were forced to downgrade to an earlier version so this might be a fix for that given Google hasn't really posted a changelog for it as of yet. In fact, it looks like they simply reworded the last one:See borders of cities, postal codes, and more highlighted on search.Browse a day-by-day display of where you've been using location history.Improved transit information layer and added the ability to browse by mode of transportation. If you happened to have any issues with the older build, go ahead and give this one a shot and see if there is any changes. We'll keep an eye on the changelog and see if Google adjusts it in anyway and update if necessary.

Can I get the old Google Maps back after upgrading?

Monday 21st of October 2013 / androidforums.com
I just updated my HTC One and now I can't downgrade to the older Google Maps that had better navigation, like I used to. Does anyone know a way to get it back??? I hate the new Google Maps! So much!I just downloaded Waze and at a glance I'm not a fan but that's just a quick glance from sitting in my apartment. What I really liked in the old Google Maps was the chance, during navigation, to see other possible routes and their distances and times. I really hate not having that, is that in Waze somewhere?

Old Google Maps

Friday 03rd of January 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
Since this phone somehow managed to update all by itself to android 4.3, and it seems that this is now unfortunately non reversible, doe's anyone know how to get the old version of google maps back? Before the phone updated, the new version of the maps appeared on my phone. I was able to resort to the old version by uninstalling updates and, thankfully the old, reliable version reappeared. Now I seem to be stuck with this new **** version, that tells me I am 10 minutes away from my home, even when I am standing by the front door! There doesn't appear to be any updates on the phone to uninstall. I checked thru the app store but only this new version is available. I am starting to lose patience with android, keep updating, but at least give us an option of what we want. Why on earth have google released this new version of maps, when it looks crap, and more importantly is unreliable. Any help greatly appreciated.
