GMail Labs Experiment Signals Another Sign of Android Invasion

Wednesday 18th of November 2009 / androidguys.com
If you’re like us, chances are pretty good a lot of your contacts Gmail are Android users.  Wouldn’t it be great if you could open Gmail up and know whether or not your friends were using their Android devices for chat instead of sitting at a PC?  You’d be able to adjust your conversation and have proper expectations before you get mad at your friend for typing too slow.  If only there was a way…Gmail has introduced a new Labs feature today which does exactly that.  The experiment is called Green Robot and it shows Android icons next to your contacts who are using an Android device. It’s simple, but cool nonetheless.  You’ll see from the picture below how it works! When your chat buddies log into Gmail, their presence icons will revert to the traditional red, green, and orange status bubbles. In addition, if your chat buddy happens to be logged into both Gmail and Android chat then the traditional Gmail status icons will be shown.Oh – before you run off, getting all Big Brother on us… This is just an experiment.  ItR

Sunday 01st of January 2012 / androidforums.com
Hi again. Have recently been turned on to the gmail app since I'm told its better than the stock email.. I happen to agree..But.. is there a way to make.sure my gmail app gets the emails pushed to it? If I have the Gmail and the stock app both on my home page sometimes just the stock app will register the new emails and I can go as far.as to open up the Gmail app and hit refresh and it still doesn't update my inbox to date..Is there a fetch or push or default setting that I'm missing??? Can I clear defaults and maybe set gmail as my defualy email app??

Droid 2 Gmail Wiget Opens Calendar, Others Widgets Open Everything BUT the Right App?

Friday 06th of January 2012 / androidforums.com
This has happened a few times. My stock widgets like Gmail, Calendar, Browser, etc. Open another app aside from the one its suppose to open.I've reset the phone (hard and soft), cleared the cache, rebooted, you name it.I'm NOT rooted so everything is stock or from the Market. I've noticed the screen freezing constantly after I clear the data/cache in the Multi Touch keyboard, don't let it predict the next word or correct spelling automatically (As you can see-lol).Not only do the widgets go weird on me but now the browser is very, very slow or will not open.I've never had that issue but the other issues I have had before when Gingerbread first came out.Verizon says "it's a software issue, we need to send you another device". Yeah right, why another device for a SOFTWARE issue vs a HARDWARE issue?Besides I've seen too many posts from people who accepted replacement phones only to experience the same problem. Lastly, I've even performed 2 factory resets but the issues still pop up. I'm at a loss. How does a 9 month old phone that was brand new, never dropped, wet, or mishandl

slow to open gallery

Sunday 24th of March 2013 / androidforums.com
I'm sure I know WHY it's slow to open... Gmail synced all the pictures I had on picasca to the phone. Thus I have a huck o'pics on the camera. My solution would be to delete those folders (at least the bulk of them) without taking them from picasca/gmail. Any ideas?

My evo with leaked GB feels like it is 20 times faster. Any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks Al

Gmail Slow to Open

Sunday 30th of June 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
My phone is stock, unrooted with all updates. My gmail app is getting slower and slower. When I receive a new gmail and click to open it it takes over a second for email to even begin to open. Then the circle comes on spinning slowly. It may then open the email in 10 to 20 seconds or not at all. Then I back out and try again and it usually opens in a second. Why the long wait to open? I have pictures shut off so it isn't waiting for pics to download and it is just as likely to happen in a text only email message. Does this happen to anyone else? is there a cure OTHER than using another email app? (I prefer to use gmail directly if at all possible) Does this happen to anyone else? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

Gmail slow

Saturday 31st of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hi, I have had 2 phones 1 on ICS and a nexus 4. Whenever I try to use gmail (app) it is quick responsive etc until I try to either delete or send mail to folders or change lables, then I always get a white bar with a spinning circle, until I either open another folder, force stop or reboot.I have removed data, even removed all mail from my desktop, checked all my setting, IMAP.This has happened on every Android device I have owned, the only time it doesnt do it is the stock app on my ZTE before play updates it.Anyway to open a new email account using the same address?or is it meant to be like this? Thanks
