FoxFi alternative

Monday 19th of November 2012 / droidforums.net
So FoxFi has gone and effed it up with usage limits. Does anyone know of an alternative to FoxFi. One that is free, and works for WiFi?I also understand that FoxFi will quit working when we finally get the JB update. So that is another reason i am looking for a substitute hotspot.

FoxFi Alternative Emerges for Free Wifi Tethering and USB Tethering

Monday 17th of September 2012 / droidforums.net
Most of you are rooted and use the free wireless tether app from the playstore, for the rest of you that are not rooted you have probably tried FoxFi. FoxFi works for most devices but specifically it does not work for most HTC devices. For those devices a new alternative has emerged. "Wifi Hotspot and USB Tether Pro" does the same thing as FoxFi. It provides free wireless and usb tether for those users who are not rooted. This Should work for all devices. There is a free version which allows you to test on your device. It gives you 2 full days of use then limits you to 5 minutes of tethering once a day. The Pro Version allows for unlimited free tethering at a cost of $15. This may seem like a bit much, but if it is the only working option then it may be worth your while. Grab the app here

Who needs FoxFi?

Friday 15th of March 2013 / androidforums.com
Well, after updating to Jellybean on my Maxx and losing FoxFi, I was looking for an alternative. Being averse to rooting for fear of bricking my phone, I finally took the plunge and went ahead and did it. And much to my surprise, it couldn't have been easier to root. I am now enjoying my mobile hotspot again, and my only regret was not rooting earlier and saving the $7 I paid for the FoxFi key. If you are on the fence and nervous as I was about rooting, there are tons of resources out there that will literally hold your hand and walk you through the rooting process.

All in One WiFi Hotspot and USB Tether by SVTP, an Alternative to FoxFi – Droid Life

Monday 17th of September 2012 / droid-life.com
We received a tip about a WiFi and USB tethering application made by SVTP, which as Android users, we love. For those who tend to have troubles with FoxFi, you may want to give this one a try. There are two versions: free and professional. The difference between the two is quite large actually, seeing as how the paid version is a whopping $15. That price tag may seem a bit outrageous, but for software that just works and allows for free tethering, it’s up to you whether you think that price is worth it. Best piece of advice I could give is to try out the free version first to see if it works best for you. The free version allows for two days of free tethering, then you are limited to just 5 minutes of tethering once per day. Kind of a downer, but sometimes that’s all you need. Plus, a one-time $15 fee is better in the big scheme of things than the $30 per month most carriers charge. Try it out and let us know if you like it over FoxFi.Play Link ($14.99)Cheers Stew!

Friday 16th of November 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
Just checked for updates in play store and found FoxFi is now 6.97. Curious if anyone has any alternative apps??? I will probably pay for it but just wanted to consider options first. Does anyone know if it will work with JellyBean once thats pushed out??? I have not rooted and loaded it. I was planning to wait for the OTA from VZW. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

New Update vs FoxFi

Tuesday 06th of November 2012 / droidforums.net
Hey, my Spring Samsung Galaxy S3 just got updated to Jelly Bean today, and since it's been upgraded, FoxFi no longer works for the phone. Every time I try to activate it, it say's "WiFi mode has failed on your phone". Anyone have any clue why all of a sudden it no longer works? Or does anyone have any alternative solutions?

LG Intuition ICS based, Foxfi wifi tether question!

Wednesday 12th of June 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Thinking about picking up a backup phablet in the unlikely event my Note 2 breaks. Intuition goes for a reasonable 150-200 off contract (via ebay and craigs). My question is whether or not apps like Foxfi and SVTP will work to provide wifi. I do not root my phones, nor intend to as Foxfi works great on the Note 2. I have heard that LG is notoriously fickle on bootloaders and locking down their phones. I know a root method is possible, but difficult. So my question is if anyone can confirm if Foxfi works on the LG intuition for wifi tether, or if there is a viable alternative (something like open garden or something) Thanks!

FoxFi Alternative VZW

Wednesday 25th of September 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Good Morning Folks, I am searching for an alternative to FoxFi. I hate the required lock screen it now needs with its security certificate. It hinders the Touchless Control feature that is a mainstay of the Moto X. I am rooted and have unlimited data. I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus and did not have this added step nor was there TC that it interfered with. This is an unfortunate change FoxFi made. I have been a very happy paying customer of theirs for almost two years. I am guessing this added step was needed to help them reduce people pirating their app or they didn't think of the ramifications to this devices Touchless Control feature. I know that i can uninstall the certificate and disable the lock screen when not using FoxFi but this is a real pain going back and forth 4-6 times a day, especially when I leave someplace and am driving wishing to use TC. If they develop a work around, I will gladly use FoxFi 100% but for now I am seeking another product. Thank you all in advance for your thought and ideas. -Gary
