How to prepare the Nexus 7 for flashing custom ROMs

Monday 22nd of October 2012 / androidauthority.com
We see a lot of toolkits that perform a variety of functions with just a click of a button. There are rooting toolkits that allow you to easily root your Android device. You can also unlock the bootloader or even flash a custom recovery with these toolkits create by Android enthusiasts. I came across a new and unique toolkit that allows you to instantly prepare your Google Nexus 7 for flashing a custom ROM.XDA Developers member jamesst20 created the JROMFlasher toolkit for the Nexus 7. This toolkit will easily wipe the data on your tablet, flash custom recovery, and even places the developer’s custom ROM right on your tablet’s SD card so you can instantly install the developer’s ROM to your Nexus 7 if you want to.  However, you will need to manually boot to recovery and install the ROM to your tablet. This toolkit also works on Windows, Mac, and has been tested out on Linux Mint 13 and Ubuntu. This guide shows you how to prepare the Nexus 7 for flashing custom ROMs.WarningThe instructions in this guide are intended for use with the Asus Nexus 7. Installing ROMs with ROM Manager - stuck!

Wednesday 02nd of February 2011 / droidforums.net
So I rooted my phone yesterday, didn't do much aside from that besides download the terminal emulator to rename some bloatware APKs. Thought I would try out the Liberty ROM, downloaded it, put the .zip in the root of the SD card, and tried using ROM Manager to install from SD. Selected "back up current rom" and "wipe cache", but the phone just re-boots regularly, I don't get the recovery menu. Thought it might be the .zip, so I tried downloading GummyJAR right from ROM Manager. DL'ed fine, but same thing with the re-booting, it just does a normal re-boot instead of going to recovery. I made sure the ClockworkMod Recovery was installed, so I'm not sure what the problem is. ROM Manager also gives me error messages if I try to fix permissions (an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!) and if I try to flash older versions of ClockworkMod Recoveries I get an error message as well. I'm stuck at this point because I don't know what is causing ROM Manager to be non-functional, and I don't know another program to flash ROMs with. ROM Manager has Super

Can't find my wifi Router after flashing several ROMs

Thursday 31st of January 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Have tried DirtyRom, JellyBam, and ViperXL (with the wifi partition update) and I can't find my wifi router. It doesn't appear in the list of connections and says 'not in range' when added manually. It magically appeared once with DirtyRom and I downloaded some stuff, then disappeared again when device was reset. Also made a brief appearance with ViperXL. My other devices are connecting fine and I've tried resetting the router. Also wiped everything when flashing the ROMs. I had no problems with stock ICS (on at&t). Am I just SOL at this point? Buy a new router if I want bloatware free JB? What brand, lol?

Flashing Custom Roms on EVO 3D Flashed to Ntelos Network

Thursday 15th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hi all, I'm new to the ROM flashing scene. I'm currently awaiting delivery of an EVO 3D. When I get it, I will have it flashed from Sprint's network to Ntelos. I called the local authorized retailer and they told me they can do it without a problem for one time $50 (I have no idea how to flash a phone myself and don't want to screw it up). I asked them since they mentioned that no future OTA updates would be possible if flashing custom ROMS would be an issue (like CyanogenMod) and they advised against it due to the possibility of accidentally flashing it back to Sprint. Can anyone tell me if I can safely root and flash my EVO 3D to CyanogenMod or will I run into what the retailer warned me about? Thanks in advance!

Question about flashing custom ROMS with or w/o using a computer

Tuesday 21st of January 2014 / androidforums.com
I was wondering if not using a computer to download & flash new ROMS will cause problems with either the ROM or my phone. I used my laptop to root my GS3, but shortly after my laptop quit on me. So I started to just download a ROM straight to my phone using the phone. Every ROM I've used I've done this way. Right now I'm running CM11 & android 4.4.2, the reason I ask is I haven't seen anyone doing it like that. In all of the instruction sets for the ROMS they all use a computer to download & put the ROM on the phones SD card. Now I haven't had any problems with any of the ROMs I've used. I did have some files that wouldn't flash. I do wonder if some features or something doesn't work, but I don't think I've had that problem. So anyways, is there a up or downside to using a computer or not using one?? Any input on this subject is greatly appreciated....

Flashing TouchWiz ROMs with safestrap

Thursday 20th of March 2014 / androidforums.com
I am rooted on 4.3 on Galaxy S3 with saferoot. Coming from my thread on XDA Developers, we could flash TouchWiz ROMs using safestrap. Has anyone does this? Could someone please guide me through the process step by step? Or if not than could someone either please provide a tutorial and/or a YouTube video? Please see my thread: Is there a way to remove the Knox bootloader? - xda-developersThank you! My choice would be CleanROM, and, yes, its a TouchWiz ROM.
