rooting - How to root a HTC Desire running official Android 2.3?

Thursday 29th of December 2011 / android.stackexchange.com
I have an HTC Desire (Bravo, A8181, GSM) sold in Sweden. I updated it to Android 2.3 using the official release, which is as of 2011-12-29 available at HTCdev with instructions from here. Now I want to root it. I did some googling and it seems like it isn't possible to root a Desire that has been updated to the official Android 2.3. I tried following this guide, but it failed at step 6 in How to: Root. When I attempted to run unrevoked, the progress text running root... was followed by the error message Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?.I also tried searching for a way to downgrade it to Android 2.2, with no luck. How can I root this phone?

Easiest way to root GT540 running 2.1! Now EVERYONE can root!

Friday 19th of November 2010 / androidforums.com
Many(along with me) had failed to root their GT540 running 2.1 with the previous One-Click Rooter.. Don't feel down, now we can root too! With just one-click! This one is more simple... -Enable USB Debugging Mode, Allow Mock Locations & Unknown Sources...-Download "z4root" from the Market...-Open the app, click the 'root' button...You are done! After some seconds the phone will restart on it's own & yay! It's rooted! ***z4root has been removed from Market, check post #12 for apk***

Trying to root old droid 3 - not working

Sunday 19th of May 2013 / droidforums.net
Hello all. New S4 comes this week so I am trying to root an old droid 3 that's no longer using Verizon's service but that I am hoping to play with as a stand alone wifi device.I am using some of the old one-click methods (including Petes) but none seem to work. It's 2.3.4 and on petes I get a message stating "ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method". Not very descriptive. I tried using the motofail files and I get errors like Unable to chmod /data/local/motofail: No such file or directory Remount failed: operation not permitted Failed to copy su to /system/bin/su: Read only file systemIt's in USB debugging mode, I have all the drivers, it is set as USB charge only, etc. Not sure why all of a sudden it's not working as the method is the same I used in late 2011 when I rooted mine and nothing should have changed. Anyone have any thoughts on things to take a look at? Very odd!The only thing I can think of is that it's some sort of driver issue but my device is found by the PC. I was using something from motos site called motohelper_2.0.51_Driver_5.2.0

Failed to root

Friday 26th of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I tried the Motochopper method for my Sprint Galaxy S 4, and when the run process was doing it's thing it said it failed. I have the super user app on my phone now, but the problem is I don't have root, and super user says it needs the latest version, but there is no way to do so as I get a error message when I try to update it through the application. Someone please help.

1st attempt to root VRUAMDK via Odin failed

Wednesday 31st of July 2013 / androidforums.com
I tried to root my VZW SGS4 that fortunately came with the older VRUAMDK firmware. I followed these instructions. However when I got into ODIN mode and then opened up Odin 3.07 and connected the USB cable on my Windows 7-64 computer and PDA opened, SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar.md5, it failed. I tried again but this is as far as I got:<ID:0/004> Added!!<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..<OSM> Please wait..<OSM> SCH-I545_MD2_423399_Kernel.tar.md5 is valid.<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..<OSM> Leave CS..<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..<ID:0/004> File analysis..<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..I was stuck in that ODIN mode, none of the buttons would respond. So I popped out the battery and turned my phone back on normally and everything appears to be OK (and obviously still running VRUAMDK). Did anyone's initial attempt fail? I'm a little afraid to try again. Or maybe I'll update my firmware to VRUAME7 since its root procedure is much simpler. (Yes, I know it's not a full root since I can

Failed to reboot after root

Thursday 31st of July 2014 / androidforums.com
Hello,i tried to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 wifi edition (GT-P5210). Before i started the root with kingo root I made a backup of all my data with kies and then closed all the kies procces with the task manager. Then i made the root. I allowed USB debugging on my tab, started kingo root and made the root. Everything seemed fine. At the end KingoRoot said that i was a succes and that i only had to wait for the device to reboot. After 1 hour of waiting the device failed to boot. I was still in the boot screen saying: "Samsung GALAXY Tab 3", and it still is. I got panic so I went on my PC and opened kies to restore the data. After plugging the tab into my pc nothing happened. Te device was not detected. So i decided to go into the recovery mode but this didnt work out either. My last try was to go into the downlaod mode and this was a succes. Now the PC seemed to see the tab. I started kies again and it was detecting the device for forever but failed to let me backup the data. Now I dont kow what to do.
