Question about emoticons/emoji?

Monday 22nd of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
If this has been answered before, I apologize, but I've been searching all night for an answer and found nothing. So, I'm very new to the android scene. On Friday I traded in my iPhone 4s for the Samsung Galaxy s4 and so far I am in love. As for my question, I know that android doesn't show emoji unless the device is rooted, but I've noticed that when my friends with iPhones send me emoji that it shows up as a black and white android version of whatever they send me. I was wondering if there's any way that I can somehow use those emoticons, is there some kind of keyboard I need?

Mommy, Daddy - where do emoji's come from.

Wednesday 23rd of July 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I have no issue. I have a Note 3 on 4.4 with emoji, and am not sure if they were there on 4.3 as I have only recently discovered their uses. I have answered two Q&A's on this unsuccessfully. One had a Note 2 on 4.3; one had a GS4 on 4.4. Both were looking for the emoji on the stock Samsung keyboard. Trust me, they were not there. Screenshots flying everywhere. The 2nd GS4 noobie came back after I had suggested SwiftKey to both of them. They were not on SwiftKey either. I remember a recent post saying they are built in to the phone os, and any keyboard uses those. Is this true, and how can each of the above get them back? [Also I mostly use the ones in Tapatalk for these forums, so I had presumed they are in the Tapatalk app?] Where are the emoticons on the Samsung keyboard? Samsung galaxy S4 kitkat 4.42 but no Emojis
