Yo Verizon, What’s With This Ongoing Wi-Fi Toggle Notification on the Galaxy S3 and Incredible 4G? – Droid Life

Friday 06th of July 2012 / droid-life.com
I spent my first full day with the Incredible 4G LTE yesterday after putting it off over the holiday, and noticed something a bit frustrating almost immediately. See that screenshot above on the left? The “Ongoing” message to turn WiFi on. As an “Ongoing” notification, it never goes away. I’m not kidding about this either. If you take a look at the “Advanced Wi-Fi” shot to its right, you can see that there isn’t an option to remove this. So no matter what you are doing on your phone or where you are, which could mean you are 400 miles away from the nearest WiFi router, you will have that WiFi icon with a slash through it telling you to turn WiFi on. The only way to get that obnoxious little icon to go away, is to connect to a WiFi network. To make matters worse, this doesn’t seem to be isolated to the new Incredible. Samsung Galaxy S3 owners who received shipments from Verizon this week are reporting the exact same thing. From what we have heard, Big Red actually went as far as to remove the WiFi toggle in the notification bar

Update T-Mobile Galaxy S3 with Infamous Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Custom ROM

Friday 11th of January 2013 / android.gs
If last year it was hard to find a stable custom ROM for the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, now suitable updates are being released almost daily. The latest firmware that comes to improve, customize and optimize the Galaxy S3 T999 is the Infamous S3 software which is being developed and provided by the xda-developers member Jamison904. Also and as usual, I will try to teach you how to easily apply the update on your device, the below step by step guide being all that you need to read and follow. But first we should detail a little bit the firmware or else you will not know if it is what you need for your SGS3. The Infamous platform is a custom ROM and not an official OS released by Samsung for your T-Mobile Galaxy S3. Therefore, by installing the present software the warranty of your device will be void (we will see why a little bit later). Also, considering the same aspect, you cannot OTA or by using KIES apply the firmware on your handset and a manual method is being required instead. The same is explained below, so don’t hesitate and use my directions. Now, the Infamou

iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 – second display battle says Samsung’s is better

Tuesday 02nd of October 2012 / androidauthority.com
A few days ago, just after the iPhone 5 launch, we compared the new iOS device with the Galaxy S3 in a series of posts (drop test, video comparison, benchmarking results and display tests) and in most cases the iPhone 5 proved to be the better device.Today we’re going to take another look at the display battle between the two. In our previous coverage, we showed you that the experts at DisplayMate concluded that the iPhone 5’s display is superior to the Galaxy S3’s but now we have a new report that says the opposite. Sort of.A study conducted by IHS says that the Galaxy S3’s display is thinner and has a wider color gamut than the iPhone 5’s panel. The Galaxy S3 features a 1.1mm thick display capable of offering the full color gamut (NTSC standard) while the iPhone 5 has a 1.5mm thick display that is capable of offering just 72% of that full color gamut. However, it’s not a clear win for the Galaxy S3, as IHS isn’t completely refuting DisplayMate’s findings. According to the survey, the iPhone 5 may offer a better performance thanks to “better calibration, higher brig

How to: Remove That Pesky Ongoing WiFi Notification on the Verizon Galaxy S3 – Droid Life

Monday 09th of July 2012 / droid-life.com
On Friday, we noticed that Verizon had introduced a new “ongoing” notification to the Galaxy S3 and Incredible 4G LTE that to put it nicely, was a bit annoying. This is essentially their way of reminding customers that they should use WiFi as much as possible rather than their brand spankin’ new 4G LTE network. For tiered or shared data customers, this reminder is probably worthwhile, but to those of us with unlimited data and who do not appreciate a 24-7 reminder of something we do anyway, we were looking for ways to get rid of it. One of our readers has come through in the clutch again with a step-by-step guide, for rooted users. Instructions:*You have to be rooted in order to do this.1.  Download an SQL editor from the Play store and open it. SQLite Editor is an option.2.  Find Setting storage>settings.db>secure:  3.  Locate line 86 “wifi_networks_available_notification_on” in the editor and long press on that record. 4.  Choose “Edit Record” and change the value to 0 (zero).5.  Save the record, back out and restart your pho

Customize Notification Panel missing - Galaxy S3

Tuesday 02nd of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hey everyone, I have a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S3 (Canada) and I recently got the 4.1.2 jelly bean update. Supposedly, this update is supposed to consist of the ability to update the notification icons by going to Settings>Display>Notification Panel. I don't have the "Notification Panel" selection on my "Display" list. I really want to be able to customize my list but I have no idea why it's not there. I have all the other updates that came with 4.1.2 (i.e. multi-window, page buddy etc) but not the ability to customize the panel. Please let me know if there's something I'm missing. Thanks!

Email notification on latest Galaxy S3 release

Sunday 19th of January 2014 / androidforums.com
With the latest release on the Galaxy S3, whenever I receive an email, my camera light goes off. I cannot find a way to turn this off. It's quite distracting. Anyone having the same issue? I'm on Verizon.
