Tip: Chromecast Can Cast Your Entire Desktop Screen Too, Not Just Tabs – Droid Life

Friday 26th of July 2013 / feedproxy.google.com
During Google’s announcement of Chromecast earlier this week, they talked about the new HDMI dongle’s ability to cast full browser tabs, but would only give this feature a “beta” tag. We’ve already shown you how that works in our in-depth look, which we highly recommend you check out. What we wanted to make you aware of now, is the other feature for Chromecast that Google is only willing to call “experiemental” at this time. We’re talking about full screen casting, or mirroring from your desktop. As you can see in the image above, my TV isn’t just showing a tab maxed out to full-screen, it’s showing my entire desktop. And since it’s showing my entire desktop, I can open up any app and have it show up on my TV. I could edit an image, root my phone through a command prompt, or even browse through the pictures stored on my Macbook in iPhoto. Sure, there is a slight delay, just like when sharing Chrome tabs, but the experience of sharing your entire desktop is already there. To access this experimental entire screen casti

Finicky Chromecast & General Questions

Saturday 27th of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I got my Chromecast through Amazon and have been playing around with it a couple days. I'm curious if my experience is anything like others... I have found the Chromecast and associated programs to be finicky - is this the typical user experience? I think I'm looking for a sanity check here. During my setup - I had all kinds of issues. I connected my Chromecast to my surround receiver - I can see the "setup" screen on the TV. The Chromecast phone app used to setup the device wouldn't work. It never found my Chromecast. So I switched to my Macbook Air - it could find the Chromecast, but couldn't configure it. Finally, I went to my desktop PC - it wouldn't work until I turned on the Wifi Connection and disconnected the LAN...then it found the Chromecast, I was able to configure it, etc. But then my Macbook air couldn't cast to it...nor could my phone. After messing around for 30 minutes or so - I gave up - and disconnected the device and took it to another TV. From there - I was able to configure it from my desktop PC and everything was happy. After setting it up on the 2nd

Audio, but no video from Google Chrome Tab

Monday 29th of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
My Chromecast just arrived. I got it all setup and I tested it by sending a YouTube video from my Nexus 7. AWESOME!!!!! I then sent music from Google Play Music. AWESOME!!!!! Then I came upstairs to my desktop (Windows 7 PC 64-bit 3 GB RAM, Intel Pentium 2.80GHz) and went to NBC.COM and tried casting Revolution. I tried casting full screen. All I got was audio, no video (screen on TV was blank). TV is a VISIO HD TV (I would have to go look at the model number if you really need that). It has two HDMI ports. The Chromecast is in HDMI-1 and the BD Player is in HDMI-2. I don't have a receiver or anything else connected. Any ideas? Thank you Neal

Casting from PC Chroe tab...

Tuesday 13th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I really love my chromecast - great for YouTube and Netflix! Also can cast from my chrome browser on my PC.BUT - my PC is 2 rooms and 60ft away from the TV in the living room. And there doesn't seem to be a way to control the cast video after it is started - except to run back and forth from computer room to living room. And I don't want to move the computer to the living room. I tried Unified Remote app to remotely control it via my Nexus 7 - and while it does control my Desktop, I can't see the mouse cursor on the TV screen when it's being cast to. So that makes Unified Remote app useless. Any ideas on how to control the cast video from the Chrome browser tab without having to be at the computer to do it? And using a laptop is not an option! --glrobin Sent from my Nexus 7 using AC Forums mobile app
