Can you update Android phones?

Thursday 17th of June 2010 / androidforums.com
Hi, simple question from someone new to Android:So I get my shiny new Android phone, can I update it with the latest version of Android? This may sound like a duh question but I have been used to getting a phone and accepting whatever OS was on it. When I want to move on I just moved to a newer model until again I get a new phone and so on... I am particularly interested in developing for Android and I wanted to know if some phones were more locked than others or can I assume that if a phone says it is Android based then it will behave like other Android phones (baring of course major OS updates).RegardsEdward Jones

Can you run Android 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread in a VM?

Tuesday 14th of December 2010 / android.stackexchange.com
I came across a how-to guide for running Android 1.7 in a virtual machine (VirtualBox), but 1.7 is old. I haven't been able to find a Android 2.2 or 2.3 image anywhere, does anyone have any ideas on how to virtualize newer Android OS's? Preferably a free virtualization solution like VirtualBox.Here is the link about virtualizing 1.7:http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/14/run-android-using-a-virtual-machine-on-a-mac-or-windows-pc/They send you to here to download Android disk images:http://virtualboxes.org/images/android-x86/But I can't find anything newer than 1.7, anyone have any ideas? Is this considered illegal or piracy is that why there are no images available? Thanks for help!

How fast can you drain your battery

Sunday 07th of December 2008 / talkandroid.com
So I pulled the plug on my phone after a full night of charge and I've had it about 2 weeks now and I hear all this stuff about the battery life and I was just curious how fast I can run my battery down so I was on the phone for about 30 min. Texting after listening to music off the imeem radio then emialing and web browsing all while still texting and its down to yellow right now and I'm still texting and listening to my mp3's and doing this ... so I predict from 12.30 to 4.30 it will DIE ! This is my record .. what about you guys out there can you beat 4 hours ?

For the owners, can you access Android Market with Wifi only? I'm planning to get one with no contract and no 3G. Was wondering if I can do this. Thanks!

Droid 4 Battery: Can you overcharge

Saturday 26th of May 2012 / droidforums.net
Since I got my Droid 4 a few days after they were introduced in the US, I've been very careful to avoid keeping the device on the charger after the Battery % indicator (I charge in "sleep" mode) reaches 100%.My question: Is this an unnecessary precaution, or does the Droid 4 have circuitry to prevent overcharging? For what it is worth, I'm satisfied with my D4 battery life thus far. I have mobile hot-spot enabled, and if I know I'm going to use it for an extended time, I plug is (as recommended by Motorola); however, for a brief period (<15 minutes) I don't bother. As best I recall, the only time I plugged in was when I watched a movie on my iPad 2, using WiFi to my hot spot to get to the internet. With headphones, it was a somewhat satisfying experience, but, alas, no competition with my HD TV.

Friday 01st of April 2011 / androidforums.com
Hello Continuim users.I have a Samsung Induge on Metropcs. It has horrible battery life. But there is no extended battery available for it.If you go to samsunns site, there is an extended 2600mA battery model #EB124465YZ that the site says will fit the Continuum. Can someone here please measure your battery and describe how the pins are configured? I think I could make it work in my Indulge.

Battery Options - Can you change the battery display?

Monday 21st of April 2014 / androidforums.com
How customizable are the display options on the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2? I've got the battery icon up at the top of the screen next to the time etc, but it's tiny; was kind of hoping I could drag this onto the main menu screen or find a way to make this icon bigger/more obvious, is that at all possible? Also, the battery doesn't signal it's dying until it's just about dead. Any way to make the alert come sooner? This is my first time with this phone so I'm not entirely sure what my options are. If you can help, thanks a lot!
