Skyfire coming to Android via purchase of Steel browser creator

Thursday 11th of February 2010 / androinica.com
If your first smartphone was Android-based, you probably don’t know much about Skyfire. But for those of us who migrated from Windows Mobile or S60, you know it was one of the best web browser alternatives for mobile phones. Skyfire hopes to do the same on Android, and they’ve taken the first step in that process by purchasing kolbysoft, the development company behind Steel.Skyfire is popular not only for having a great browser, but also for making it possible to quickly load pages and multimedia content. It’s especially useful because it renders from a server and supports Flash, Silverlight, andQuicktime streaming video, making it easier to watch content that typically isn’t loadable in default browsers. The acquisition of kolbysoft was about securing talent according to Skyfire’s CEO:By adding kolbysoft’s talent to Skyfire, we’ll be able to fuse the best of Skyfire’s famed cloud-computing multimedia capabilities with the Webkit browser movement to create a better hybrid model for Android. Adobe AIR and You (Or why this is important) - Page 2

However with AIR you could watch the same video in it's own application and allow you to have personalization settings (bandwith, color, scrolling sports scores, social networking, ETC) . The main functionality is duplicated of course but the environment factor is increased significantly in AIR.

Internet browser issues

Friday 13th of May 2011 / androidforums.com
We just unboxed my wife's Samsung Replenish today. I have to say, I was impressed with the hardware - it seems solid. However, the browser leaves some to be desired. She doesn't like the facebook app, and prefers to use touch.facebook.com, but when she puts this into the browser it forwards to m.facebook.com which does not provide the same functionality. I'm wondering if facebook identifies the screen size and forces it based on that. Also, even though this is running Android 2.2, it does not seem to handle flash content properly. I know we all hate flash, but its a reality today. She went to Sit Means Sit Dog Training Schools and could not watch the video posted on their front page. I'm thinking its because of the way they have the video container posted, but she has no control over that and my Evo Shift 4G (also running android 2.2) loads the page fine.It does not act differently in Dolphin, and Skyfire is listed as incompatible. For an android phone to have crippled browser capabilities seems to be a concern to me.

Android Browser (STOCK) AOSP Browser

Sunday 01st of December 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
Hello everyone,I love Chrome but I hate that's its not flash enabled.I have been using Puffin for a weeks now to watch my videos, but the most annoying thing is that I cant fast forward. If I try and seek ahead, I will get an error and have to start all the way from the beginning. Also, when i am watching a video and I try to click on the full screen Icon, it wont do anything, but this separate internal full screen icon will appear on the top right. As soon as I do that, my seeking ahead capabilities are over. I used to live the stock browser in my Galaxy S2. It could do everything. I found out that this new browser is stock (click here for info). When I installed it, the movie wont play even when I have flash installed. I read reviews and it seems like it is working with flash, I just dont know how to enable it. Please help.
