Can I use the stock SMS/MMS app on an Android tablet without UMTS module?

Thursday 29th of September 2011 / android.stackexchange.com
I just got my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet. It does not have a GSM/UMTS/3G module but there is an SMS/MMS icon. What is the purpose of this app? Does Android allow me to send and receive SMS/MMS over my Wifi Internet connection, or is it just a leftover?I am not interested in any alternatives to the stock app. I am more curious if it serves any purpose on a device without a UMTS module and if so, how to configure and use it.So the questions could also be phrased like: What purpose serves the stock Android SMS app on an tablet without GSM/UMTS module?

Making calls and SMS from your computer

Saturday 15th of January 2011 / forums.androidcentral.com
hey guys, I was wondering if there was an app that allowed you to use SMS and phone-calling from your laptop I'm NOT looking for a way to save minutes or anything like that. its perfectly fine if it uses my own minutes/texts and its kinda important that its sent from my number. essentially, i want a better interface for me to make communications from my phone. I want a real keyboard to use for SMS and i don't want to constantly switch my headphones from my laptop to my phone just to receive phone calls. also, i must have all the functionality that i would have from the phone. I MUST be able to send calls/SMS to people who did not contact me first. having reply-only functionality DOES NOT cut it. ps, i don't have an android phone atm, but i'm looking into it, and having this functionality would be a big push for me to get such a phone. pss, while i have our attention, does anybody know of an android email app that defaults to showing 'unread messages'(think windows phone 7's email client).

Cannot reply to SMS - area code issue

Tuesday 22nd of September 2009 / androidforums.com
I am using the main android messaging app that came with the phone.I have set my contatcts to include the area code.I can send a new message to a contact and it includes the area code. But when someone sends me a text message, I open it from the notification bar, and it opens in the messaging app, but does not include their area code on the top so it will not let me reply to that thread.I have to exit messaging and send them a new sms.I would really like to just type my reply text and hit send.any thoughts would be great - thanks

com.android.phone crashes when using sms

Thursday 11th of July 2013 / androidforums.com
So this all started a few weeks ago. If I try to send a sms or mms using either handcent or the default messenger app i get an error message that says "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". I also noticed that if I open a thread from one specific contact "Theresa" that will cause the same crash. I can open any other thread from any other contact and it will be fine if I dont try to send them a sms or mms. I tried deleting the Theresa thread but the process crashes and the deletion does not take. I tried clearing cache for both handcent and default messaging. I also did a factory restet. Any help with this would be great as I have not been able to send text message for 3 weeks and texting in my primary use for my phone.edit: Im running a galaxy s2 on virgin mobile.

Simple Question regaarding SMS in Android

Sunday 02nd of February 2014 / androidforums.com
Hello all, Recently I was blessed with a Nexus V and been adapting towards using it. I'm enjoying the huge difference over my previous phone in functionality. However there is one feature I cannot avoid as my job requires alot of it. I would like to be able to forward a number from my call log within a SMS to another number. At the moment I have found the ability to do the above if the number in my call log is in my contact list. But alot of times this is not the case and there is no reason to do the same. Can anyone tell me if this is possible . Summary Access a number from my call log (Which is not in my contacts)Send the number through a SMS to another number which is in my contact list (sometimes these contacts may have more than one number and would be great if I can choose the number to send the sms to)Im using Nexus V which has Kit Kat 4.4.2 on it.It does not matter if it is a paid or free application as long as it works I dont mind spending money on the application. Thanks in advance

SMS delivery failure due to SMS not valid for more than 5 mins

Thursday 06th of February 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I am an engineer working for a mobile phone company so bit of an expert when it comes to SMS routing. What I have seen is that since recently my S3 is sending SMS with a validity period of 5 mins. This means if I send an SMS to phone that is off our out of coverage then the SMSC does not try to deliver it after 5 mins.If I send from my nokia I can set miximum time and it is OK.The only think I installed recently was chomp SMS but I cannot find any setting there. So how do I change the SMS validity period on my android?
